Hi Everyone,
Legend has it that once upon a time a young man from Freiburg wandered through the then still inhospitable forests of the Black Forest. A terrible storm brewed up, he got lost and fell into a storm-torn mountain lake – the Titisee. Luckily for him the mermaid Titi saved him and they fell in love…

This enchanting story was told by the Treschers Romantik Schwarzwaldhotel directly on the shores of Titisee. Is the mermaid still there? I have no idea but I certainly felt like a mermaid spending a wonderful weekend at the Treschers Romantik Schwarzwaldhotel.
Keep reading for a lovely pictorial account of the time spent at Treschers Romantik Schwarzwaldhotel plus a few tips of what to do whilst visiting Titisee and the Black Forest.
Titisee – Where there is a Mermaid there is Romance!
Our room
The hotel is split into three different buildings. Our room was in the “Seefluegel” and had the most stunning view over Titisee.
Great attention to detail in the rooms including a lovely welcome fruit platter. We instantly felt at home.
Apero
Part of the reason we felt so at home was certainly due to the fact that it is a real family hotel, run by the Trescher and Moninger families. We met Mr and Mrs Moninger who made us feel extremely welcome and escorted us outside for a beautiful apero on the terrace overlooking the lake.
At this stage I started to hover with happiness – haha!
Dinner
Dinner was in the restaurant with a lovely view over the lake…
We had half board which consists of a starter, soup, main and desert each evening. Beautifully cooked … scroll through the pictures.
Each evening we tried one of the local wines – the selection was great at very reasonable prices.
Nightcap at the bar…
Saturday morning
All the staff were super friendly giving us loads of tips and tricks for our stay. One of the best however was that the lake is at its most beautiful early in the morning. Have a look at these dreamy photos – a photographers heaven!
The picture above was taken by me and the pictures below by the latest FunkyForty assistant – a drone.
Breakfast
A fabulous buffet with a great selection to choose from…
Driving through the Black Forest
There are loads of great outdoor activities to do around the Titisee and if you stay 2 nights you get their local “Gäste karte” with loads of tips, discounts and even complementary boat ride around the lake.
Normally we would have done something sporty like mountain biking but we had for awhile now been wanting to drive along the Schwarzwald Hochstrasse route 500. This was the perfect moment! The route is famous for being one of Europe’s top 10 most picturesque roads to drive along.
The route runs from Baden Baden right through to Freudenstadt. Click here for details.
By the gates of Bühlerhöhe – currently in retirement but it once was the most amazing castle hotel and holds very dear memories for us. We are hoping an investor will come along soon to revive its beauty!
Lunch en-route
Stopping off at the Kniebeshütte for a spot of lunch.
Sharing a local meat platter for lunch. Of course no trip to the Black Forest would be complete without a piece of Black Forest cake… so desert it was!
Titisee-Neustadt
Being a Real Tourist back in Titisee-Neustadt we had a lovely look around town. Not forgetting the local tourist shops as well as a good look at the famous cuckoo clocks of course!
Then used our “Gäste karte” for a free boat trip round the lake.
Followed by our own romantic half hour electric boat rental. We laughed so much, thinking of how much mischief we could get up to out there on the lake, just the 2 of us 😉
Back at hotel the pool and wellness
Isn’t this the most dreamy view you can think of?
Really fell in love with the outside pool but indoors was also beautiful!
There’s also a whole lovely sauna and beauty area but we ran out of time so I’m going to have to test this out next visit 😉
Dinner night 2
Once again waitng for my photographer to pick me up for dinner – smile…
Trying out another reasonably priced local wine – am kicking myself for not taking a bottle home!
Starter, not shown as it got eaten before the camera had a chance, was a wonderful slice of vegetable quiche!
Time to leave
Sunday morning and already time to go – we had such a wonderful time. Thank you so much for treating us so wonderfully. This was certainly a weekend to remember from the beautiful ambiance, romantic lake vibes and wonderful hospitality. Thank you so much for having us.
At less than 2 hours’ drive from Zurich I can really recommend a trip to Treschers Romantik Schwarzwaldhotel as a lovely weekend break from home!
