There's Something Special About the Crans Ambassador - Crans Montana

Hi Everyone,

Switzerland is full of beautiful mountain ski/spa resorts but there is something certainly very special about the Crans Ambassador hotel in Crans Montana.

For me it started as we entered Crans Montana and made our way up to the 5 star Crans Ambassador hotel. The distinct A frame peaks of the hotel  jutting out of the mountain side reminded me so much of my youth. (Growing up in NZ with Swiss parents we went on discovery tours almost every weekend. One of our missions used to be to find another lovely A framed hotel.) Without a doubt I can confess that the Crans Ambassador is one of the nicest A frame hotels I have ever stayed in.

Crans Montana is set on a steep mountain slope offering an amazing view of spectacular 4’000 m high mountains. This was the view from our room. It made me feel as though I was a queen sitting high up in my castle.

Over 300 days of sunshine each year has to be another good reason to visit Crans Montana. No wonder this is where Roger Moore decided to spend the last years of his life.

Keep reading for a full pictorial account of our stay at the Crans Ambassador hotel.

On the Terrasse
On the Terrasse

The first thing that struck us as we walked into the main entrance of the Crans Ambassador hotel was the wonderful terrace at the other side. It beckoned us so strongly that the first thing we simply had to do was go out there and enjoy a beautiful glass of wine whilst soaking in the panoramic mountain view.

The romantic mood didn’t stop once we got cold. It was simply a matter of moving inside to the next pretty fireplace coupled with a panoramic view through floor to ceiling windows.

The rooms:

Being A frame each room has it’s own unique character. You can choose between alpine or forest view. Of course I would always suggest alpine – especially given the beautiful alpine front. These rooms also have a pretty view onto the Crans Montana village and ice rink – super pretty with the lights at night.

Our room:

The bed was super comfy – this makes sense as I have since discovered all mattresses in the hotel are from Elite beds.

Another room which has the added option of turning into a family room/suite…

Confession: I seriously went from room to room wearing my cute Vanessa Martinelli pyjamas – in fact one night I nearly teamed the trousers up with a blazer for dinner. The look even got hubby approval.

Restaurants and Bars

There are four different bars and restaurants to choose from:

The Terrasse:

The outside Terrase (pictured at beginning of post), has to be the most romantic Terrasse out, especially when the fire is lit and the sun just starting to go down.

Le Bar Lounge:

Choose between sitting at the bar or in one of the comfy sofa chairs dotted around.

There is also a beautiful fireplace for that extra cosy feeling.

This is also where breakfast is served. Eating with that panoramic view made us want breakfast to simply last forever – haha!

La Muna:

Muña is a simple but magical plant, used in Peru to relieve the ills associated with high altitude. It is the ideal ally for living in the mountains and venturing to summits. So no surprise that the Peruvian and Asian-inspired restaurant at the Crans Ambassador – offering a breathtaking view of one of Valais’ most fascinating landscapes – bears its name.”

We were given the most awesome tasting menu. Our waiter said the chef believes that the proof of really good food is how you feel the next day. I can honestly say we both felt really great and didn’t put on any weight despite eating this delicious meal.

Have to add a “dressed for dinner” photo here.

Note the bag – it is from a dear artist friend of mine Caroline Dechamby. The first time I ever visited Crans Montana was about 4 years ago and it was to visit her in her atelier right in the middle of town. This has since moved to St Tropez but you can check out her fabulous leather collections online here.

Le Carnotzet:

A traditional Valais restaurant with a rugged mountain design, specialising in local cheese dishes such as raclette and fondue as well as charcuterie.

Spa and Sports

As well as the wonderful lap pool – with panoramic mountain views – there are lots of hiking, mountain biking and golf possibilities. Not to mention the skiing – talk about this further down.

Spa treatments – There is a whole palette of spa anti-aging treatments available using Nescens’ scientific expertise in cellular reconstruction.

Even the fitness room has a wonderful view into the forest and distant mountain range.

Skiing

Not to worry if you have left your ski equipment at home – there is a shop including rental services attached to the hotel itself.

The nearest ski lift is a mere 150m from the hotel entrance – only make sure this lift is working as at the beginning of the season you may need to go to one of the bigger lifts first.

Crans Montana itself is a super pretty ski region with 140 kilometres of slopes, sunny terrain with spectacular views. Various levels of difficulty so perfect for all levels of ski ability.

Shopping

Crans Montana is also a famous shopping destination with plenty of luxury shops to choose from.. We were amazed as it was the only place currently in the whole of Switzerland which didn’t have a queue in front of the Louis Vuitton store!

Conclusion

As I write this post the only thing I wish to do is pack my bags and go straight back to the Crans Ambassador hotel. I can only recommend it as one of the most lovely Swiss mountain resorts with fabulous staff, panoramic views and scrumptious yet healthy food. What more could one want…

Thank you so very much for the most wonderful stay!
