Why an Eco-Responsible Mattress is more important than you think!

Hi Everyone,

Eco responsibility and no planet B are huge topics out there right now. Many of us are reducing plastic and trying to buy less, more sustainability. Yet how many of us have taken that step further.  Looking at our bedrooms and what we sleep on would be a good place to start. Especially considering we spend 1/3 of our lives sleeping.

Keep reading to find out more about why an eco-responsible mattress is more important than you think!

Most conventional mattresses are made from synthetic fibres and polyurethane foam,  derived from petroleum. The petroleum used to make polyurethane foam can emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs). A class of toxins that includes formaldehyde, benzene, and naphthalene and can cause; eye, nose, and throat irritation, headaches, nausea and more.

Reasons to have an Elite Beds eco-friendly mattress:

Natural materials

The Elite eco friendly mattresses are made with natural materials such as wool, vegetable fibres, Tussah silk and pure horse hair.

With the wooden boxspring Elite created the first wooden spring (spruce) on the world market, using local Swiss wood and 100% recyclable.

Regional suppliers and eco-friendly chain

Not only does Elite use natural materials, they also wherever possible, use regional raw materials. Each of the Elite suppliers are also highly involved in an ecological approach.

Less flammable

For a start, natural materials are much less flammable than their petroleum based counterparts.

No waste

Elite offers a second life to valid mattresses via charitable organisations and by using certain padding for the insulation materials. Others are burned to generate electricity. New padding scraps are also recycled to make new padding.

Leftover foam is shredded to make cushion stiffing.

Wood scrap and sawdust is used to heat the cabinet making workshops.
