Last week we had great fun staying at the Alex Lake Zurich. Much more than simply a hotel, this really is a lakeside resort which only just opened up in 2019 and has so much to offer. The perfect place for both a leisure or business stay.

Located right on the shores of the lake of Zurich you can easily go directly from your room into the lake for a swim. SUP’s are available and there is even a small but stylish spa with views directly onto the lake.

A special hotel boat will take you into the centre of Zurich within 30 minutes. Alternatively choose to drive with the hotel limousine. Or even better – a little secret that’s not greatly advertised – there is a complementary electric BMW for guests to use/test drive. For us sporty creatures there’s also the option of using one of the hotel’s complementary e-bikes.

Set across five floors and featuring a state-of-the-art stone and glass architectural design,

The Alex Lake Zurich belongs to the Living Circle hotel group. Which means that hotel guests may also enjoy all the facilities of the other 2 Zurich based Living Circle Hotels: The Storchen and the Widder.

Perfect for longer stays – or when visiting Zurich centre.

 

Rooms and Suites

There are 42 contemporary studios and 2 penthouses. Each studio contains a custom-made design kitchenette, dining and sitting area, master bedroom and en-suite bathroom. As well as a private balcony,  terrace or French windows with beautiful views on the lake, the city of Zurich or the mountains.

We had a beautiful corner suite with the most magnificent 360° overlooking the lake of Zurich.

Checking out a few emails before heading downstairs for dinner. Wearing silk pyjamas available at Marina Anouilh.

Fabulous compact kitchen complete with dishwasher, fridge, microwave, elements, coffee machine and kettle for tea.

The Restaurant Alex is available to hotel guests from 07 am to 11 pm with continuous warm cuisine.

Love the way the restaurant has been carefully designed on 2 levels. No matter which table you sit at you have the most stunning lake views.

The chef Tino Staub and his team (previously at the Widder Hotel) are dedicated to finding  interesting and newly interpreted flavours. Combining local products with flavours and ingredients from around the world in their dishes. We really enjoyed his green curry which made our taste buds feel as though we were in Asia.

This is also where breakfast is served right to your table.

In case you’re wondering I managed to slice my finger open with a bread knife earlier that week – not to be recommended!

Bar Alex

Set in a pretty mint green, the bar Alex is a super inviting spot for a bespoke cocktail with a view.

The residents lounge

Another room perfect for apero which can also be booked for your own private event.

Outside terrace

One of Zurich’s most beautiful lakeside terraces – a definite must visit the next time you are in town on a sunny day!

Spa facilities include:

• Hammam style spa
• Steam room & sauna
• Vitality pool
• Relaxing chairs
• Treatment room
• Showers
• Direct access to the lake

There is a menu of special massage treatments to choose from. Or choose to have a facial and discover  Swiss line, a blend of Swiss science and glamour to deliver amplified skin renewal.

The air-conditioned gym is also a great place to energise after a busy office day. Yoga classes can also be organised for you. Alternatively choose to use one of the complementary stand up paddle boards or e-bikes.

 

The Alex Boat

Such a treat to be able to simply walk down stairs and out to the hotel’s very own boat and shuttle service into town. In 30 minutes you are dropped off right in the centre by the  Hotel Storchen pier.

 

Conclusion:

We loved the location right on the lake. Even though we were still in Zurich we felt as though we’d travelled further away – that real holiday feeling! It reminded us a little of one our favourite hotels along lake Como – Il Sereno.

The restaurant staff were super sweet, making us feel like members of the family.

Certainly a place we’ll be returning to!
