Hi Everyone,
It’s no secret that lake Como is simply one of my most favourite places on this planet. However, you know you’ve hit the jackpot when you take your husband to a hotel and he sinks into the balcony lounge sofa claiming “I was born to be here”!
I’m a romantic at heart and love the traditional old villas along Lake Como so I wasn’t sure what my heart would say to this modern piece of luxury jutting out on the shoreline merely since 2016.
In any case it was total love at first sight. We dropped the car at the entrance, walked down the path and turned the corner. That very first impression simply blew me away. My heart melted.
Things only got better the more I discovered about the hotel. Keep on reading for a pictorial account of , ” Il Sereno Hotel – The Most Perfect Piece of Modern Architecture along Lake Como”.
Il Sereno Hotel – The Most Perfect Piece of Modern Architecture along Lake Como
Open since August 2016, Il Sereno Hotel is still considered the most stylish new place to stay in all of Europe. Built on the edge of a cliff in Torno, an 18 minute drive from the centre of Como. The hotel has 30 suites, each with it’s own beautiful lake view.
Check-in happened whilst drinking a most delicious virgin cocktail out on the terrace. It’s the little things that matter and this was certainly miles nicer than standing round a reception desk…
The architecture
Right from the beginning one realises this hotel has been designed with great attention to detail.
The designer Patricia Urquiola, born in Spain now lives and works in Milan. She is known for many things, having designed furniture collections for B&B Italia and Louis Vuitton as well as having work in the MoMa in New York. Some of her recent work includes the restaurant IGNIV Zurich . She’s been called “the most important female designer in the World today” by CEO of the Italian home design brand Boffi.
So many fineness around Hotel Il Sereno that make it obvious there is a woman’s touch behind the design. Most impressive are the hidden mirror doors in each suite and super cute round pop up mirrors in the bathroom that turn the bathroom bench into a makeup table.
Huge emphasis is placed on making common areas fell like home.
Our room
The view was so stunning we could have happily stayed on our terrace the whole day…
Loved the copper-look details of the bathroom taps… something I’m definitely going to consider when we redo our bathrooms! No expense has been spared especially with the extremely generous bathroom products from Ex Voto Paris. I am still using the rest of mine at home.
Spa
Hidden in what seems like the mountain across from the pool is the cutest spa ever. The jacuzzi is set in the old boat house with direct access to the lake…
It was super nice to discover the Valmont spa – I have been using Valmont products for my face for a couple of years now and they are definitely my favourite!
Gardens and pool area
Believe me I am still dreaming of spending another day hiding in my own little pool a-frame tent with the 20 meter long infinity pool and Lake Como at my feet….
A walk around the pretty gardens is also a must. Plenty of places to sit, relax and order some coffee or Prosecco with home made cookies…
Riva boat highlight
Wow – is truly the first word that springs to mind. The Hotel Il Sereno had Riva boats made for them, one has a skipper and another is especially designed for clients to enjoy their own driving experience on the Lake of Como – no boat license needed!
A little secret – I spent most of the time teaching hubby how to ride the waves so that the water doesn’t go all into the boat – regardless of speed – haha! I guess coming from New Zealand means you are born with a certain amount of sea legs!
Michelin star Restaurant Berton Al Lago
The beautiful restaurant is named Berton Al Lago after the head chef Andrea Berton. Onsite you will meet the esteemed executive chef Rafaele Lenzi. The Michelin star was obtained within one year of opening which speaks for itself when it comes to the amazing quality of the food.
With indoor and outdoor seating it is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Here’s a little view of what we ate:
Villa Pliniana
Just when you thought things couldn’t get any better – only a few minutes boat ride from Hotel Il Sereno you’ll find the 16th Century Villa Pliniana. Which can also be hired for private functions. In fact we discovered this is where Spotify founder Daniel Ek married Sofia Lavender.
With 18-acre gardens and 19 luxurious bedrooms in four large apartments in the main villa plus additional standalone villas that accommodate up to 39 guests.
The two large ballrooms can host events up to 200 guests and the waterfront gardens up to 500 guests. There is also a private pool and spa area, helipad and private boat dock.
Isn’t this quite simply the most breathtaking view ever…
I was so amazed to find out the whole building had been constructed over a waterfall…
We can not wait to come back to the wonderful Il Sereno Hotel with it’s super friendly staff and dreamy setting. I would certainly add it to your bucket list! However warning, when you have been here once you will want to come again!
