Hi Everyone,
More than ever before, today’s fashion is focused around sustainability and story telling. The bag in the picture above is a fabulous example of both. Upon first glance it looks like a piece of Mondrian art, however look carefully and you will see in addition the silhouette of a woman .
There is a real story behind why – one that will certainly inspire many of you.
Keep reading to find out why and the full story of art on your arm!
Art on Your Arm
Visiting Paris one Fashion Week several years ago was when first came across a selection of wonderful bags by Caroline Dechamby – a Dutch self taught artist living in the wonderful Swiss mountain area of Crans Montana. We have been friends ever since.
Caroline started painting abut 30 years ago after a successful modelling career in Paris. Moving to Switzerland to start her own family. She always painted as a hobby however then life didn’t go as planned.
Staying strong and with hard work and dedication she managed to turn her huge passion for painting into a successful business. Opening her first gallery in Crans Montana in 1995. Her paintings were largely focused on refreshed pop art. Note the woman featured on each painting and leather item. This is a self portrait of Caroline herself. Depicting strength, courage and the will to be strong no matter what life throws at you.
In 2014 Caroline expanded her offering to include leather bags and accessories. Allowing her artwork to come off the wall and be carried on the arm of the owner.
“Coming off the wall, the vibrant and refreshed pop art
painting is displayed on the arm”
For each bag, wallet or accessory a part of Caroline‘s painting is carefully chosen before being screen printed on leather.
All pieces are limited editions and only 100% fine Italian leather is used. The bags are also 100% made in Italy by a carefully chosen bag manufacturer with whom Caroline has been working with for several years now.
It is certainly worth checking out Caroline Dechamby’s website and online shop for more beautiful art collections and leather accessories.
