Hi Everyone,
Spring is in the air – I already see it in the garden, but the temperatures are still super nippy, almost like Winter on some days. So how do you dress warm with layers yet still look stylish?
The answer for Spring 2024 is pretty simple, anyone can follow these 5 simple tips. They really do make all the difference to any layered look. Most of these tips apply to layering any season but I’ve also added a few special Spring 2024 trend tips.

The New Way to Layer and Stay Stylish this Spring 2024!
1. Use colour to make an impact
Spring is the perfect time to use colour to make an impact. We’re all sick of wearing black and are eager to get some colour into our outfits.
Spring 2024 in particular is all about colour. Monochrome looks are a big thing but personally I feel it is still a little early in the season to go full monochrome. Instead I like to get a selection of solid bright colours which pop and still keep a little black nuance in the whole look.
Green is a very hot colour this Spring so you can almost not go wrong by adding green to your Spring 2024 outfit. Another very hot colour combination is pale blue and either bright red or orange – one of this seasons best combinations spotted during Fashion Week – see here for examples.
2. Playing with length
Any layered look will always look more stylish if the last, outer layer has a certain length. Luckily this Spring coat lengths are still lovely and long, but do keep the slightly shorter knee length coats you might own. Coat lengths are trending up from Winter 24/25 on!
3. Matchy matchy
One of the simplest ways to make your outfit look really put together is by having some sort of matching component.
In today’s outfit this would be my sneakers and the jacket. It’s a small detail but really makes a lot of difference to the eye!
4. Each layer must work on it’s own
When layering, remember one of the reasons you’re layering is because you might get either hot or cold. So however you put your outfit together it should look good without the outer layer as well.
How many times have you thought “oh no I can’t take my jacket off otherwise my whole look will be wrong”? Confession – I have done that in the past but these days I have learnt to be more careful.
5. Avoid bulky knits as under layers
You might love colourful bulky knits but believe me they simply don’t work as under layers . For a start being a knit the breeze goes through and chances are high you will still be cold no matter how chunky the knitted sweater or cardigan. Secondly chances of looking like a Michelin man with a chunky knit under your coat are realatively high. If this is the look you want then go for it – otherwise stay away from chunky knits when wearing layers.
Having said that I often carry a very thin black cardigan with me to use as an invisible under layer. It also doubles up as a scarf if necessary or even pillow for longer travels.

Wise words. And you look really good. I am glad you are also a fan of a little matchy matchy. I am too and I was starting to doubt that. You reassured me.
Greetje
Thanks so much dear Greetje. I know people often play matchy matchy down but that’s mostly because they don’t want to invest in a matching item 🙂
Have a great day.
