Summer Trends: Styling Mini vs Maxi Dresses

Hi Everyone,

This Summer it’s certainly a question of either wearing mini or maxi dresses. Which do you prefer? Personally I like to have a mix and wear whatever I’m feeling like on that particular day.

There are however tricks to styling your mini vs maxi dress. Since ever I’ve made it a personal rule of mine to reserve heels for short outfits and flats for maxi dresses. The exception being boots and sneakers which can easily be worn with both. I definitely only wear heels with maxi dresses for more formal occasions or office wear. Otherwise the look gets far too serious for my liking.

A big part of my personal styling rules are due to my own body shape – I explain more further down.

Once you decide to wear a mini dress you have to be aware your legs are on show. No matter which mini dress you are wearing people are most likely to focus on your legs before even noticing the dress.

This is exactly why it’s good to wear heels with mini dresses – they always give a beautiful shape to your legs and make them seem even taller and slimmer.

If you have super skinny ankles – not the case for me – you can easily get away with flat sandals and mini dresses. If this is not the case it really is a look best to be avoided.

Should you want to stay with flats all the same stick to wearing booties/boots or sneakers with your mini.

I fell in love with these biker boots (available in store at Maison Gassmann) as soon as I saw them – especially as they are so fitting around the leg.

Boots and mini dresses are certainly a great way to add an extra special touch to your outfit. It’s an unconventional mix but looks fabulous as long as you wear it with conviction.

Maxi dresses look great with flats – especially slides or simple sandals in Summer.  Adding heels to a pretty maxi dress simply gives it a very formal look. Keep the heels for serious nights out or going into the office…

As the dress is fun I thought it would be fitting to add a bit of a fun bag to complete the look. Bag available in store at Maison Gassmann
