Hi Everyone,
Styling colour during colder months is a fabulous recipe to warding away Winter blues. However many of us are too afraid to give it a try, to stand out or of simply having done it wrong.
I’m going to confess to this colourful outfit being the result of a phase of, ย “so many clothes but nothing to wear” whichย I was going through last week. What do you do when you feel like this? Maybe you read my posts for inspiration (smile). I went to the street style pictures of the most recent Fashion Weeks – this time Copenhagen caught my eye.
In this post you’ll learn about the one ever so simple rule that all Fashionistas use when styling their colourful outfits.
Styling Colour Like A Fashionista
Long gone are the days of sticking to 3 colours, as are the days of having matching shoes and bags to every outfit but there is one unwritten rule that remains and if you look carefully you’ll notice every Fashionista abides by!
Colour Repeating!
Colour repeating – i’ve called it this on purpose as it’s not specifically matching bags with shoes or shoes with dress or any other strict rule. It’sย about wearing a colour you like in some way and then making sure the same colour appears again somewhere – anywhere in your whole look.
At first glance you’ll only see three distinctly different bold colours in this picture but if you look carefully you’ll notice the pink is repeated in the nails and scarf.
Here you see the scarf a little better. It’s a slightly different shade of pink but even this doesn’t matter. ย It remains a colour repeat.
Another colour repeat is the red. Notice it completes the outfit from top to bottom, with the same red lips, cardigan and booties.
We’ve been having some very cold weather here but believe me wearing this outfit was a real “pick me up”. It also made others smile. My challenge to you all is to go into your wardrobes and try to replicate your own colourful outfit!

Have fun at Banana Republic – that’s missing in Switzerland.

I absolutely love this outfit. I love all these colors together! I just ordered a bright pink skirt with red shoes, but I don’t seem to find the perfect red sweater! You look absolutely amazing!
It’s so hard to look for that perfect coloured sweater isn’t it…I know Zara has some cuties right now – otherwise here’s a super cutie LV look alike: https://www.net-a-porter.com/ch/en/product/802871/frame/cutout-ribbed-merino-wool-blend-sweater

Once again, I LOVE the color combo!! Pink and red with denim=scored!! Thanks for sharing your great sense of color.
Thank you Darlene – have a lovely day xx
I bet you made some people smile, then your outfit looks like the sun came out xxx
Absolutely perfect. Love the outfit and yes you are right. You want at least one colour in the outfit repeated. Even if it is only in a brooch, something small. Tieing it together as it is also called.
Greetje
OK Tiering – like that name too ๐
I totally agree with your take on this Greetje!

I like the use of colour, it’s something I need to experiment with. I was berating my wardrobe yesterday for too much stuff and yet not a thing to wear.

Goodness, I love everything about this, Yvonne! The bold colors compliment one another so well and are such a happy combination. I enjoyed reading about the repeating of colors, as well.
