Hi Everyone,
Despite writing about fashion and moving with the trends each season, even I have what you could call the “Yvonne uniform”. These are items you’ll find in my wardrobe each and every winter. They create the one outfit I quite simply feel “at home” in.
These are the pieces I am always careful to invest well in. Choosing to buy quality as opposed to going for the bargain. I keep the same pieces for years, however they will get replaced once they begin to look worn.
This post gives you more of an insight as to these favourite 5 pieces in my WInter wardrobe and why I love them so much.

The Long Camel Winter Coat
I got my first long camel winter coat in the 90’s and simply haven’t looked back. This year I finally invested in a new one. Camel is a colour that goes with so many things. Some winter’s I’ll only team it with dark colours and then others you’ll see me wearing whole outfits in similar tones. This winter I’m doing both.
This comes from Golden Carrot Shoes – a favourite Zurich store which has a new online shop with International Shipping.
2. A Dark Blue and Black Blazer
Much to my own surprise I know many people who simply don’t wear blazers – especially now when home office is a fact of life for most.
However you are always dressed when wearing a blazer. In winter they serve a second purpose – wind protection. Often wearing a blazer under your coat means you can remain toasty and warm even if you keep your coat open.
Confession – many of my blazers are still from my corporate days. Because I no longer wear them every day they have lasted much longer. The most important thing when choosing a blazer is the fit. Shorter ones are mostly better over skirts and dresses whilst longer ones are for trousers. This rule then gets totally broken if you are going for that oversized look.
My favourites these days are the ones with a little stretch in them – you’ll find a few interesting ones here.
3. The Skinny Turtle Neck Top
I literally live in these every day. Wearing them with leggings at home. I’ll style them under my favourite shift dresses – see post here. They are also the perfect thing to wear under your blazer.
I have a selection from Intimissimi. My favourites are the modal ones. I have bought them for my Mum and daughter as presents too and they both love them – so soft they simply seem to melt on your body.
4. Suede Ankle Boots
A good pair of comfy ankle boots in winter is a simple must have. Wear them with trousers, skirts, dresses. They even work with festive outfits.
The best collection of good quality booties to be found online (international shipping) is here.
The ones I am wearing are also still available online (international shipping) here.
5. A Good Pair of Dark Sunglasses
Even in Winter the sun can get glory and it’s important to protect your eyes. Whilst adoring white and lighter frames in summer, in winter I like to go for a darker pair.
These horn glasses are super special – 100% hand made in Switzerland by Marcus Marienfeld. Super comfy with the best quality protection glass you can find.
See more glasses inspiration here. or you might like to read a previous post written about Marcus and the sort behind his glasses here.
