Hi Everyone,
Whilst pattern mixing has been a real trend, encouraging many of us to dare to go way beyond our comfort zones, 2020 sees the reigns being pulled in once more. The fashion scene is telling us it’s OK to pattern mix but please do it discreetly. In general more emphasis is being placed on teaming patterns up with plain blocks of colour or even simple jeans.
Here a few pattern mixes spotted during Fashion Week in September last year:
Note on the left the pattern mixing has a strict tone in tone theme to it. In the middle the pattern mixing is done by adding a patterned accessory. The picture on the right shows pattern mix in the fabric of the top. The rest of the outfit is a simply combination of jeans and white heeled sandals.
It is however still ok to pattern mix. If done carefully it can add tasteful interest to any outfit. Keep reading to find out more about the 3 top tips to successfully wearing mixed patterns in 2020.
3 Top Tips to Successfully Wearing Mixed Patterns in 2020
TIP #1 Select Trend Pattern Themes
In the case of this outfit it meant choosing snakeskin boots – a top 2020 trend. Teamed with a tartan blazer. Tartan being another top 2020 trend.
TIP #2 Distance
Once you’ve chosen your patterned items wear them in a way to ensure they re not too close together. Having patterned shoes and blazer leaves plenty of room for the rest of the outfit to be neutralised with jeans or other plain coloured pants.
TIP #3 Colour Blend
Have your patterned pieces blend in with the rest of your outfit from a colour perspective. In this outfit the blazer has bits of blue which match to the jeans. The boots have black in them which teams back to the colour of the bag and sunglasses.
