A Touch of Asia in the Swiss Mountains – The Chedi Andermatt

Hi Everyone,

A place so magical it really belongs on everyone’s bucket list! The Chedi Andermatt, is certainly like a touch of Asia right in the middle of the Swiss mountains.

Andermatt holds great memories for my hubby who spent many childhood holidays there. He has so many stories to tell but his favourite is of when he broke his leg on the mountain as a 7 years old. Bernhard Russi’s Dad visited him in hospital. Bernhard Russi is a former World Cup alpine ski racer who was born in Andermatt. The mere fact that  the Father of such a famous person took the time to visit the little 7 year old left a lasting impression.

With all the old stories in mind, both my hubby and I were super excited to experience a stay at the wonderful Chedi Andermatt.

Of course all those years ago Andermatt was a much smaller village. Super impressive is the fact that the owner, Egyptian Samih Sawiris, not only invested in his hotel. He has pumped over £1 billion into the town Adermatt and ski area with plans for more to come! By 2018 the hotel will become ski in ski out.

Already now the hotel has an amazing ski butler who will prepare your skis and carry them to the piste for you. He even takes off your boots  and gives you a cup of hot chocolate at the end of a hard day’s skiing. All in line with the Chedi Andermatt’s aim to ensure every guests wish is filled to the utmost.

The Chedi Andermatt however is a resort not only for Winter with plenty of exciting excursions the whole year through. Private breakfasts up the Furka Pass. Swiss Alps Classics with a whole week of classical music. Plus many more!

Keep reading for a little hotel tour plus more!

The Rooms

This grand hotel of the 21st century has over 200 fireplaces and 123 rooms. In the back you see our fireplace which was built into the outside wall. Even the smallest of rooms is equivalent in size to a junior suite of a regular hotel.

Our room with the bed on one side and comfy sitting area on the other. The photo is a romantic historical memory of Andermatt.

Looking into the bathroom…lovely touch with stand alone bath to the right and huge rainforest shower off to the left.

With fabulous Aqua Di Parma bath products…

This is a suite bedroom. Note the book shelves. If you are a repeat visitor with a special interest your room will be pre-filled with books covering your favourite topics.

The same goes for wine as each suite has it’s own little wine area.

Suite bathroom area.

The Spa and Fitness Area

After going for a lovely 7.4km run through the countryside (pictures of scenery here), we made our way to the most beautiful spa area. Even the dressing gowns were the softest I have ever worn.

A walk down this amazing corridor led us to a wonderful spa and fitness area. With helpful staff everywhere ensuring our every wish is met.

The fitness area had a huge selection of machines to use. Plenty of books to read whilst working out as well as headsets so you can listen to your favourite music. I decided to treat myself to the pool area.

So in love with the Asian influences. Three pools of varying heat… my hubby could take as long as he wanted for these photos. In fact I probably could have stayed there all day long…

The next pool a little cooler but perfect for swimming laps.

There is also an outdoor pool.

Plenty of pretty relaxing areas…note the fireplace behind.

Dining

Off to dinner, wearing a vintage dress found at back of my closet but ever so happy to get out my new Caroline Dechamby bag.

Waiting for my glass of bubbles before dinner.

At the entrance to the restaurant we’re met by this amazing Cheese tower. Filled with  Swiss cheeses (with one exception)…to the amazing value of CHF 14’000! Wow don’t think i’ve ever seen so much cheese in one place before.

The restaurant is set up with 4 different open cooking areas. With the menu offering a selection of mouth watering Asian or Swiss cuisine. We went for the Asian option.

Conclusion:

Both my hubby and I had heard so much about the Chedi Andermatt. Expectations were high. However from the moment the car door was opened for me upon arrival, right through to the end of our stay, amazing service and opulent yet understated luxury created an air of magic we never wanted to leave. Best Swiss Alpine resort ever!

    1. Hi Emma, You must let me know when you come. Especially if you will be in Zurich.
If you get a chance the Chedi is certainly worth the experience.
