The Bürgenstock Resort has been on my bucket list for some time now. Having experienced it for real, I have quite simply fallen in love.
A picturesque one hour drive from Zurich will take you to this amazing complex situated on the cliff 400 meters above the lake of Lucerne and 900 meters above sea level. Upon arrival my car door was magically opened with a smile. Our luggage transported to a covered trolly, followed by a super friendly welcome at reception.
My first impressions walking inside was to soak in the beautiful flower arrangements. The Lakeview bar, straight ahead with it’s magnificent floor to ceiling windows offering a 180° view over the lake of Lucerne was not to be missed. 24 Breathtaking Hours at the Bürgenstock Resort
Brief history:
It all began July 1888 when Bucher & Durrer opened the Park Hotel on the Bürgenstock along with the then new funicular. The architect Jaques Gros, later also designed the Dolder Grand Hotel in Zurich.
Since 2008, the Bürgenstock Resort has been owned by investors from Qatar who spent $700 million over 9 years on the exquisite renovation. Opening in it’s present state in 2017. It is now one of Europe’s most iconic luxury resorts.
Many a famous person has resided here over the years. Audrey Hepburn and Mel Ferrer got married in the chapel at the Bürgenstock. Sophia Lauren was also frequently spotted here. In 1964 the James Bond 007 movie “Goldfinger” was filmed here.
Instead of arriving by car you might like to try another wonderful experience via the Bürgenstock shuttle boat and funicular. Starting off in Lucerne with a picturesque boat ride along the crystal blue lake waters to the funicular which takes you straight into the lobby of the Bürgenstock hotel.

The Rooms:
There are 102 rooms and suites at the Bürgenstock Resort. Every room has a lake view.
A number of things are included when you book:

- Use of the shuttle boat and the Bürgenstock Funicular during your stay

We had a lake view superior room with the most magnificent lake view windows in both our bedroom and the bathroom. In fact I can not emphasise the view enough – it literally took our breaths away!
It was ever so difficult to pull myself away from the bath. The combination of luxurious square bath, amazing views and even a fireplace – off to the left makes this one of the best bathrooms ever!

The Hanging Bridge Walk
In addition to overlooking the lake and mountains, our room also looked onto a spectacular hanging bridge. So once we’d unpacked and had a glass of champagne we ventured outside to have a look. It turned out to be the perfect little walk to explore the grounds and do a spot of tree hugging.
There are a number of other walks one can do around the area including a 20 minute one to the Hammetschwand Lift. At 1,132 metres, it is the highest outdoor lift in Europe. There is also the Hammetschwand mountain restaurant at the top.

Spices Kitchen:
Spices Kitchen is truly the most spectacular restaurant in many ways. The dining room is a true architectural feat jutting out of the hotel’s facade, simply hovering over a dramatic cliff.
Whilst eating we were lucky enough to see a wild Chamois come and say hello down below.
The kitchen is split into 4 sections, each representing a different type of Asian food: Japanese, Chinese, Thai and Indian. We chose the Chef’s menu which included samples from each type of kitchen. The flavours were exquisite – we would definitely choose the same again.
The Alpine Spa:
The Alpine Spa reception…
First stop – the outdoor infinity edge pool is quite simply a dreamy experience. You can also book to go there for 4 hours or the day. Such an incredible sensation floating up high with the fabulous lake panorama beneath and mountain view in the distance. At 35° the water is warm enough to soak as long as you like…
Indoors there is also a fabulous lap pool…
Plus many different beautiful relaxing spots…including a Kneipp walking pool and floating pool.
A fabulously set up gym…
Not a problem if you need your hair done as there is a hairdresser set up for several customers at once.
Forgot to pack something? No problem because you can buy anything you might need whilst staying at the Bürgenstock Resort in the arcade located just outside the spa area…

Current collaboration with Ferrari
There is always something new happening at the Bürgenstock Resort and right now it’s a collaboration with Ferrari.
Reserve a suite at the Bürgenstock or Palace Hotel and you get keys for a Ferrari or Maserati, to drive for 300 km through scenic roads and Alpine passes.
This wraps up our fantastic memorable stay at the Bürgenstock Hotel. The Bürgenstock Resort as such has 4 Hotels to choose from. Something for every budget.
