The Cambrian, Adelboden – A Real Feel Good Oasis

The Cambrian, Adelboden - A Real Feel Good Oasis

Hi Everyone,

It’s when you arrive at a hotel, walk inside and are laughing with the reception staff within minutes, that you know you have landed somewhere special!

The Cambrian Adelboden is exactly such a place. I had been there in summer a couple of years back – see the report here. Here you can also read the lovely story about how the current Welsh owners bought the property and turned it into the fabulous luxury resort it is today. Fun fact – it is also a member of the Design Hotels. A carefully selected collection of 300+ hotels based world wide, each having special design features.

This visit however was a special winter mother/daughter treat for my daughter Cassia. We were both curious what The Cambrian Adelboden would be like in winter.

Cassia fell in love with the beautiful green design theme which runs throughout the property. We found ourselves plotting how to replicate some of the interior design into her new apartment. I wonder if we will – smile! The abundance of real, very healthy looking plants is another fun feature. Then there is the panorama winter garden which has given me new home lounge goals.

The spa area and views are some of the best in Switzerland. A special treat being that both the indoor and outdoor pools are open all year round. Pool hours are very long so you can watch the sun set or swim in the dark and it is possible to order drinks at both pools – what a luxury!

The Bryn Williams restaurant is also not to be missed. With a special menu that changes every day as well as a seasonal card.

Our room

We were given a beautiful panorama suite. Super comfy bed with separate lounge area and balcony providing full mountain views…

The Spa area

As mentioned before the spa really has one of the best mountain views in Switzerland.

It is super pretty at night and as this is one of the few places where the pool remains open late and you can have a drink right at the pool. I really recommend visiting the spa either late at night or very early in the morning.

The fact that the outdoor pool is heated and open all year round is another great bonus.

If you manage to wake early it is worth going down to the spa to experience the beautiful sunrises…

The Bryn William’s restaurant

The Cambrian, Adelboden - A Real Feel Good Oasis

Bryn Williams, ‘Chef Patron’ at The Cambrian Adelboden comes from North Wales. His experience includes working at some of London’s most prestigious kitchens – with the world’s most stellar chefs – working alongside Marco Pierre White at ‘The Criterion’ and Michel Roux at ‘Le Gavroche’.

All ingredients are locally sourced where possible, whilst menu choices are influenced by Bryn’s culinary experiences in both London and Wales. You might like to try the continually changing daily 5 course menu with wine pairing.

Here a look at what we ate:

Plant love:

The Cambrian, Adelboden - A Real Feel Good Oasis

I have to include this section in honour of Cassia who has a true love for plants.

She was absolutely taken by the beautiful plants throughout the Cambrian Adelboden. Especially that they all looked so wonderfully healthy. I was given strict instructions to note how healthy the little banana trees looked. Putting mine to shame. I now promise to repot it soon – smile.

The Winter Garden

The winter garden with full panoramic view onto the mountains is a truly beautiful spot to sit and relax. Time to switch off the phone and read the local paper or go through one of the many coffee table books lying around.

Of course I am not very good at just sitting and relaxing like normal people. Cassia is about to give me lessons on this…

Adelboden slopes

Adelboden-Lenk in the Bernese Oberland is one of the biggest and most attractive ski resort in Switzerland with over 200 km of slopes.

The main slopes are easily accessible from Adelboden, including the World Cup run down Chuenisbärgli. The resort has a good range of pistes for all abilities, with most of the challenging runs above Geils.

As we only had one afternoon for the slopes we decided to stick to sledding and having a go on the mountain swing. The swing being on my bucket list since ages.

Top tip – the best area for sledding and the giant swing are up on Tschenten Alp. The gondola going up is right in the centre of Adelboden opposite the Adelboden tourist office.

Kandersteg – Belle Epoque week

Kandersteg is a mere 30 minute drive from Adelboden. Once a year they have a Belle Epoque week where anyone can go, dress up in Belle Epoque style and take part in the local festivities. More information here.

Despite passing by quickly on a Monday on your way home, we still managed to spot a few people dressed for the occasion…

Conclusion:

The Cambrian Adelboden is a real feel good oasis. It doesn’t matter what time of year you go there is always plenty to do in the area. Even just spending your time relaxing at the property itself is definitely worth it. The perfect way to recharge your batteries after a stressful week in the city.

The staff are so friendly and helpful. Spa simply Devine. Food delicious and the rooms have everything you could wish for including a lovely design element.
