One of the most wonderful things about Christmas and pre Christmas time is when we use it as an opportunity to show our loved ones just how much they mean to us. Here I don’t mean running down to the nearest jewellery store and picking something up as a surprise. I am pretty sure most of you know just how very wrong this can go – smile. The Most Wonderful Christmas Gift Experience – La Gioia Ascona
Feeling very lucky this year as Hubby decided to turn this year’s Christmas gifting into an added experience…
It was Friday morning and a snow storm was brewing in Zurich as we stepped into the car for our adventure to Ascona, Ticino. A mere 2.5 hours later finding ourselves down in sunny Ticino. Ok to be honest it was raining when we arrived but the next day clear skies were all around. By the time Sunday came we had blazing sunshine streaming through the windows of our suite.
The last part of our drive here was a real adventure… we had to drive along one of the cliff lined private roads until we spotted fairy lights on a gate on the left hand side. Here Andreas from La Gioia Ascona met us and led us into a little gondola like carriage which then zoomed down the hill to the front entrance of La Gioia Ascona itself. This was definitely a super cool hideaway!
Then it was time to meet Andreas and Martina (founders of La Gioia Ascona), properly and find out more about La Gioia Ascona. La Gioia Ascona is a secluded hideaway set on an 8’000m plot with forest and beautiful garden. It has 3 luxury self contained suites one can book, as well as an art gallery and jewellery pavilion.
This visit we have come for the jewellery.
Jewellery selection time:
We are lucky enough to arrive just when there is a jewellery apero party happening in the evening. So after an initial hello we go to our suite to enjoy the views before changing for the apero party.
Before the guests arrive I am given my own private introduction to Martina’s jewellery.
Having a true passion for jewellery herself, Martina started designing her own pieces 6 years ago. Every piece sold is lovingly designed by Martina and made by carefully chosen goldsmiths. I can feel the special energy that has gone into designing each eace as Martina shows me some favourite pieces.
Each piece is made out of 750 white or yellow gold and the stones are either precious or semi precious. As you are buying directly from Martina the prices are lower than what you would pay in a store in the city.
There are several collections to choose from and Martina is great at helping you choose something that suits you and your lifestyle.

By the end of the weekend, not only did I have the most wonderful Christmas gift buying experience but we also left having made lovely new friends.
