Hi Everyone,
It began with an 80 year old man realising his dream!
The story goes like this:
There was an Italian man named Antonio who had a passion for the outdoors. Studying Agronomy which sent him to Africa when he was young.
Later returning to Europe due to the war and then responsibility of feeding a family, he became a successful stockbroker. Holding on to a secret dream of one day owning his own vineyard and producing wines as good as he likes to drink them.
Then at the age of 80 Antonio finally realised the beginning his dream & bought the land for the vineyard in Monferrato, southern Piedmont.
Unfortunately, Antonio never managed to see his dream of making wine come true, but he bestowed his family two things: the vineyard, and his great dream. A dream which his grandson then realised in 2020. Proving that dreams don’t have an expiration date…

In 2020 Antonio’s grandson Luigi Carlini had the courage to realise both his and his Grandfathers big dream. That of producing great wines sustainable wines which they too enjoy drinking with friends and family. Val di Luna wines come to fruition!
Luigi himself is Swiss but produces the wines on the property inherited from his Grandfather in Southern Piedmont.
The mild, sunny climate makes Southern Piedmont a great place for growing grapes. It is no wonder that some of the best Italian wines come from this region! In fact the Val di Luna wines have already received some of the most renowned awards from the wine world. All this in under four years!
I’m here in the kitchen drinking my favourite Val di Luna “risotto dinner” red wine, Bric del Cedrone, Barbera d’Asti Superiore D.O.C.G.
I love the rich cherry, black olive and polished oak notes which this wine has. It pairs beautifully with a simple “porcini” risotto. It is made using 100% Barberra grape and is rested in aged French wine barrels for 6 months before being transferred to stainless steel for a further 6 months.
This is my mid-week goto wine as I eat risotto mid-week and this wine is rich in flavour yet light to drink.
Check out more Val di Luna wines here.
