Right from the very beginning we are all brought up to learn how important it is to be kind to others. However being kind to yourself is just as important – if not more. Being kind to yourself enables you to help others to your full potential so the circle goes round.
Even more importantly self-kindness is an essential component of good mental health.
According to psychologist and well known author, Kristen Neff (2007), those who are self-compassionate are:
“Less likely to be critical of themselves and less likely to be anxious and depressed, which, in turn, leads to greater life satisfaction”.

Why being Kind to Yourself is So Important and Tips on How To!
Being kind to yourself is key to good mental health.
One of the simplest ways of being kind to yourself is to stop yourself from feeling inadequate or stupid. Everyone has these moments – even those that appear to be amazing and successful at everything – what is key is how we deal with them.
I remember telling my boss about having to sit an online test 3 times before passing – I felt so stupid. He told me not to treat myself like this as if I take 3 times chances are very high that others took even longer. I later found out the average was at least 5 times before people passed. It was a lesson I remember today and it has helped so much.
If you find something difficult then for sure others will too, they just won’t necessarily admit to it.
3 Other key reasons to be kind to yourself:
Better physical health
Self-kindness leads to less stress which in turn stops many illnesses such as headaches, colds and many more.
You will be a more positive and powerful person
When you are kind to yourself it also becomes easier to have a positive outlook on different situations. No one can take self-love away from you, this makes it much easier to take criticism in a positive way too. It lets you reflect logically instead of taking others opinions personally and straight to the heart.
The chances are high you’ll live longer
Research has shown that there is a direct link between being happy and longevity. Be kind to yourself, live life to the fullest and add some years to your life at the same time!
3 simple daily exercises to consciously work on self-kindness:
Change your self critical talk
Be kinder and more accepting when you talk to yourself.
Identify what you really want
When you focus on what you want instead of fearing the negative you will find it comes true.
Give yourself a slot each day which is just for you – even if it is simply 10 minutes dedicated to meditation.
Regular special treats
Giving ourselves a regular special treat is also essential. This way you always have something to look forward to.
Recently I treated myself to a facial at Labo Spa – Zurich’s very first day spa.I loved the fact that despite having a beautiful main line of Swiss Line products, LABO Spa also has other skin care brands specialising in different treatments. I was told this way they can truly cater for each individual skin type needs.
The minute you enter LABO Spa it is like stepping into a new oasis. There are a number of different treatments to choose from:
Facial – each facial is individually adjusted to your skin type. Loving the current seasonal special HydraFacial. A totally non-invasive wonder weapon.
I experienced the most wonderful Swiss Line Facial and left after an hour with fabulously glowing skin and a feeling of having been reborn.

Thank you so much Swiss Line for giving me this fabulous facial. It is certainly an experience I intend on booking more of going forward.
