Hi Everyone,
Let me introduce you to the softest cotton ever that I have recently discovered. A type of muslin cotton, only it’s much more than muslin. It is incredibly soft to touch and keeps you both warm or cool at the same time. I’m talking about Jamdani cotton!
Interestingly Jamdani cotton holds a rich historical significance as one of the finest and most artistic forms of handwoven muslin. Originating from the Bengal region and flourishing in the Mughal era, (mid 1500 – mid 1800’s), when it was highly prized and worn by the imperial court.
The industry faced a decline during British colonial times due to competition from machine-made textiles. In recent years however Jamdani has experienced a revival and it is now recognised as a UNNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
My dear friend Lipika from BombayBirds.com has designed lovely dresses and skirts made out of the softest of Jamdani cotton for her Summer 2025 collection. I show you my favourite two pieces further down.

My first piece to show you is this pretty maxi skirt. Maxi skirts in general are making a big comeback Spring/Summer 2025 and this one is so easy. Despite being lined it folds down to a very small piece in your suitcase and when you unpack it, it simply looks and is ready to wear.
So soft, once you put it on you just never want to take it off…
I’ve teamed the skirt with a simple white shirt, pashmina and pumps. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon in London. It would also look cute with a simple white t-shirt and sneakers or sandals.

The second piece I truly fell in love with is this maxi dress made out of Jamdani cotton. Simply slip on and voila you’re dressed.
Change shoes and bag and the dress takes on a whole new look:
You could easily add a belt to this dress but I decided to enjoy the extra comfort of wearing it as is.
Loving the detail at the bottom of this dress.
Check out these earrings too for a bit of a fun Summer vibe.
