My Switzerland – 10 Top Tips for Morges

Hi Everyone,

It never ceases to amaze me how many pretty places there are in Switzerland. Just when I think I’ve seen them all I discover yet another. Morges being exactly one of these spots – situated along the Lake Geneva about a half hours drive from Nyon.

You might like to read my previous post about Prangins and Nyon here.

Did you know the Morges region was where Audrey Hepburn lived and raised her children. This is just one interesting fact about Morges. Morges is known for it’s “Slow Tourism” (read more here),  and really is one of the best places to unwind and forget about hectic every day life.

So now it’s time to keep reading for more about “My Switzerland – 10 Top Tips for Morges”.

My Switzerland – 10 Top Tips for Morges

This post gives you a brief insight with great links for more about 10 top things to see and do in the Morges Region.  There is something for everyone to fall in love with in Morges. it is a great holiday destination for those seeking adventure, romance as well as families.

THINGS TO DO
  1. Go for an e-scooter ride

Much to my own surprise an e-scooter is actually much easier to get used to driving than you think. Mine seemed to have a maximum speed of 21kms per hour which I even reached as I was trailing back to Morges from the hills on the second day of my stay.

Book your e-scooter by calling the Morges Tourist Office: (Tel: 021/8013233)

See here for recommended-scooter tours  –  from a simple ride along the lake or town to going for a picturesque vineyard tour.

2. City Golf

If you’re anything like me you never intend to grow up and so a touch of city golf is quite simply the perfect way to spend a few hours of the day. There are clubs in all sizes so even the little ones can play. Apparently it is tradition for school classes to come here and have a round of city golf to celebrate the end of the school year.

See here for more information and booking.

3. Flower Festivals

There are several flower festivals throughout the year in Morges – see details here.

As I was there the Dahlia Festival was just beginning. It was ever so pretty strolling along the lakeside seeing the pretty beds of Dahlias dotted along the way.

4. Picnic along the lake

One of my favourite things to do whenever I go away is to try out the local food.

In Morges the local caterer L’Oncle Paul is an expert at preparing the most delicious picnic baskets with several options to choose from. Thanks to their partnerships with numerous cheese dairies, butcher shops, fishermen and wine growers, L’Oncle Paul’s services will make your event a success for all participants.

5. Go down memory lane and visit Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn lived in a little village just outside of Morges called Tolochenaz. There is a local bus which will take you up to the village or you could do as I did and take an e-scooter up to discover the village, find the house where she raised her children and even visit her grave and the pavilion especially built in loving memory.

More information about all the Audrey Hepburn activities available here.

6. Boat trips

The CGN (Compagnie Générale de Navigation) has beautiful boat tours on Lake Geneva in Summer. You can even visit Yvoire in France with one of the pretty “Belle Epoque” steamers.

The CGN stops at more than thirty piers along the Lake Geneva. It stops at Morges in the spring, summer and autumn, as well as on Friday evenings in winter for its Fondue cruises. It pays to book in advance if you wish to eat on board.

7. Visit the La Maison de la Rivière

My Switzerland - 10 Top Tips for Morges

Situated on the edge of Tolochenaz, a trip to the Maison de la Rivière is a great thing to do on the same day as visiting Audrey Hepburn (mentioned earlier).

The Maison de la Rivière is basically a museum, nature centre and research laboratory all in one. A unique way to discover the life of the surrounding aquatic environment. There is plenty to see and do for the whole family here.

Be sure to resolve the riddle “Mystères en profondeurs, le trésor Forel », in the new escape room of the “Maison de la Rivière”.

Originally built to protect the town in the Middle Ages, Morges Castle is now an important cultural and recreational attraction with four museums: the military museum, figurine museum, artillery & police museum and the IGNACE PADEREWSKI museum.

It’s situated directly opposite the tourist office along the lake and literally can not be missed if you are visiting Morges.

I always feel it’s important to make the most of the lake when staying near one and what better way than to have a meal with a view.

I can really recommend booking a table at the Romantik Hotel Mont-Blanc Au Lac.

WHERE TO STAY

10) Hostellerie Le Petit Manoir

If you are looking for a  hotel with a little spa attached then Hostellerie Le Petit Manoir is certainly the best you can book in Morges.

They also have a lovely restaurant but unfortunately it is closed on Sunday and Monday so I need to visit again to try it out for myself. What I can say is that breakfast was Devine, the staff are super sweet and I had a beautiful room in the same building as the lovely spa.
