Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2019 Runway Highlights

Hi Everyone,

What a week that was in Milan, the shows were truly wonderful. Each Fashion house  creating a unique footprint and yet there remain common themes throughout.

This Fashion week was a true soul bearing revelation with many designers splashing their souls out in their collections. Karl Lagerfeld made sure Fendi had a show to remember. An extreme attention to detail that he monitored right up to the very end.  The special Karl bow featuring on the back of many looks was enough to melt many a fashionista heart. Miuccia Prada showcased her love theme including the ugly side of love and Frankenstein motifs. Creative director Francesco Risso went all out for Marni with his collection titled “Neuroerotik” – bringing a sexy power into fashion.

1. Byblos

Featuring a multitude of colours. Fancy over the knee boots and the return of a somewhat revamped moon-boot. Special highlight of seeing Winnie Harlow walk down the runway.

2.  Arthur Arbesser

So lucky to get a look backstage and meeting the very understated Austrian designer, Arthur Arbesser himself…

Inspired by his own studio surroundings. Emphasis is placed on geometric prints. Metallic boots, ( a collaboration with the Tuscan shoe label Fabio Rusconi), completing each look to perfection.

3. Annakiki

French Instagram model Maeva Marshall, was the first model to walk down the runway for Chinese designer Anna Yang’s fall 2019 show, titled “Embrace Imperfection.” The cute freckles dotted across her face were a true tribute to perfect imperfection.

It was the first show I saw featuring animal print. A trend that continues in subsequent shows. We must all hang on to any animal print currently in our wardrobes!

Plenty of green and purple – a popular colour combination this season.

4. Max Mara

“Right now everyone’s talking about fashion that empowers women, but how exactly does that work?”

Speaking from experience anyone wearing Max Mara will feel empowered simply by the timeless elegance and perfection of the garment. This season was no exception with monochrome ruling the runway. Camels and Black broken up with coloured looks and a wonderful array of colourful teddy coats.

5. Anteprima

This seasons collection called “A visionary journey”, really does take you on a journey. Watching the interesting colour and play on fabrics.

Note the rich orange tones, high waists and corset waists. The corset waist or variations there of were also seen in other shows and have already started to enter the high street this Spring. Keep your eyes out as this is a trend worth investing in now.

Sara Cavazza Facchini  created a show that could almost make one feel as though we were in the land of Narnia. Snow queens and lavish dresses floated down the runway filling our senses with romance and childhood dreams.

7.  Sportmax

Taking the baseball cap to a new dimension. This was a futuristic ultra modern show with an interesting mix of textures such as leather wool and denim all in one.

One could ask if Sportmax were trying to educate viewers how to style similar items differently with almost the same dress appearing several times with or without belt. With sneakers and then with knee high boots. Note the featured belt and futuristic glasses.

8. Marni

This Marni collection titled “Neuroerotik” – brings a sexy power into fashion. Almost like a modernised version of gothic with the addition of colour.

9. Aigner

So very different from the colourful shows of the past couple of seasons. The Fall/Winter 2019-20 show was a masterpiece of elegance. Lots of floaty silver and night blue. An emphasis on pleats – but we know this is a trend that’s here to stay!

This season patterns took the back seat with most looks eliminating patterns all together. However geometric oversized gingham still managed to feature.

10. Missoni

A venue engulfed in fluorescent blue. Interestingly Missoni, which is known for its multi-coloured printed knits, also moved to a more long, lean and liquid emphasis. of course not letting go totally of its patterned herritage.

Hooded scarves and flowing striped capes being one of the main focuses of the season.
