Hi Everyone,

It’s not every day you get to meet the best barkeeper in the world. So I certainly felt honoured when invited to meet Kaitlyn Stewart. Kaitlyn comes from Vancouver and won the world class barkeeper of the year 2017.

The event was hosted together with Tanqueray Gin.  I took the chance to ask Kaitlyn a few behind the scenes questions. She was so fabulously down to earth to talk to. Yet at the same time a bundle of energy and great fun to interview.

The Interview – 5 short questions:

1. Q: What is your background Kaitlyn and what made you become a world class barkeeper?

“My family has always been in hospitality so I sort of grew up in the industry. Whilst studying at university I used to barkeep part time to pay the bills. I love being creative and creatively mixing new cocktails together. Eventually I figured I could make a career out of barking consulting and creating cocktail menus.

My parents have always been very supportive and totally stood behind me which helped so much in getting where I am today.”

2. What do you love most about being a barkeeper?

“I love the fact that no day is the same. It could be totally busy or easy. Easy days are great too as I get a chance to talk to guests and exchange stories. You meet so many interesting people.

These days, since winning the award I love the travelling.”

3. Where do you find your inspiration?

“I always read books – food books are a great inspiration. Travelling helps especially as I aim to be on the cutting edge and you get inspiration from all different corners of the world.

I also get inspiration from music. Most of my cocktails are named after songs.”

4. What is the one unusual fact about you that people wouldn’t know?

“Giggle – is this really a question? Well, in 2006 I was on team Canada for the world Hip Hop champions and got to travel to Bremen, Germany. That was such a fun experience but makes me laugh today.”

5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

“I would like to continue to travel and possibly live somewhere else for a few years. London and Singapore both seem like fun places to try out.”

The following recipes are 4 Tanqueray Garden cocktails especially created by Kaitlyn Stewart for the rooftop garden event in Zurich.

My personal favourites were High & Dry and Green with Envy…promise I didn’t drink 4 whole cocktails.
