Reporting back from Milan Fashion Week. If there is one thing for sure it’s that the oversized suit is one of the hottest items for this Spring. The official street style may have been missing in Milan but believe me the true Milanese women were still dressed very stylish. We were not the only ones wearing oversized suits.
Perusing through the MaxMara showroom Izabela and I fell in love with these two suits. I have been a fan of MaxMara for years. Their pieces are so beautifully made and have a sort of timeless edge to them. My trick tends to be to add a new complete outfit to my wardrobe and wear it like that the first year. Then in subsequent years split the pieces up creating new, updated looks.
Back to the oversized suit. Whilst it is a fashion statement in itself there are 3 basic tricks that really need to be taken into account when styling these suits. Worn wrong they can look a real mess.

Heels
The most important rule of all is to wear your oversized suit with heels. That is unless you are verging on 6ft tall. Only then may you be excused for wearing sneakers – smile!
Heels add that bit of extra length to make sure the wide trousers look good.
2. Less is More
An oversized suit is such a statement in itself that it should be left that way. Avoid wearing tops close to your neck. Bulky tops under the blazer are another no no. Exactly this is why the oversized suit is for Spring and not Winter!
3. Monochrome for Most Effect
Sure you might see oversized suits with floaty pattered trousers or blazers. However the real statements are made with the monochrome look.
Whilst we’re wearing neutral tones you might also like to wear your favourite colour. Go for a fabulous pink, electric blue or emerald green. These may seem bold and daring but if a colour you love you will surely get more use out of each piece than you think.

Well, perhaps I should have another look at my oversized suit. I dismissed it already as a very expensive failure, but I will give it another chance.
