Hi Everyone,
My heart simply skips a beat every time I walk through the gates of the stunning Passalacqua. Situated in the heart of the village Moltrasio along the shores of Lake Como, Passalacqua has been ranked at the top of the World’s 50 Best Hotel list for 2 years running now. The picture-perfect terraced gardens alone make it easy to understand why!
The 18th century villa is the passion project of one of Italy’s leading hoteliers – the De Santis family, owners of the iconic Grand Hotel Tremezzo (read my earlier review of this here). Over the years Passalacqua has been visited by Winston Churchill, Napoleon Bonaparte and Vincenzo Bellini amongst many other famous people. I always feel as though there is a magical atmosphere. Perhaps it is simply the leftover spirits from these very prestigious past guests.
Enough of an introduction. Keep on reading to find out more about “La Dolce Vita: December Dining at Passalacqua Lake Como, One of the World’s Top 50 Hotels”.

La Dolce Vita: December Dining at Passalacqua Lake Como, One of the World’s Top 50 Hotels
The charm of Passalacqua lies not only in its breathtaking views and opulent accommodations but also in it’s delicious culinary offerings.
Walking down the grand central staircase I eagerly anticipated what we would be eating. Upon entering the elegantly adorned dining room we were graciously guided to our pretty table on the side of the room.
Each of the plates we ate off was like a piece of art in itself.
Our menu was the tasting menu with wine pairing, crafted by Michelin-starred chef Viviana Varese.
Dinner began with a delicate amuse-bouche that teased our palates with a burst of unexpected flavours. Setting the tone for the meal ahead.
Our starter was the most delicious foie gras terrine with mango, peppers and sour salad. Served with house made toasted brioche. Followed by a traditional Italian first course of pasta and potatoes with pistachio, basil and pecorino cheese. As a main I had the gurnard in fish sauce and hubby had duck breast with barbecued beetroot, sour cherry and foie gras escalope.
No meal at Passalacqua would be complete without desert which was delicious. However, what really impressed me was the lovely desert chef coming to our table to fill profiteroles.
Plus being offered a whole selection of house made chocolates…. Life couldn’t get much better as far as my taste buds were concerned.
In conclusion, a December dinner at Passalacqua is more than just a meal. It’s a journey through the heart of Italian cuisine. Perfectly presented in one of the world’s most prestigious settings.
As the lights twinkled on the lake and the festive decorations added their magic, we were able to truly savour the sweet life that Passalacqua has to offer…

Wowww!! I can’t wait to check it out myself. Thank you for nearly a virtual tour. I will have to ask about vegetarian options. This might be the perfect spot for our upcoming anniversary! 😀
