John Richmond – There is no Planet B

Hi everyone,

Sustainability and environmental consciousness are coming ever more to the forefront when it comes to talking about fashion. Just recently “The Business of Fashion” published an article about Resale being bigger than fast fashion within the next 10 years.

These topics are also beginning to have an impact in what we see during Fashion Week itself.

John Richmond in particular  used these current concerns as inspiration for his Fall 2018 collection – with the title “There is no Planet B”.   This seasons runway show in Milan was about oversize, re-working vintage, printed graphics. A mix of techno and romantic. Fluorescent and black. Pointy shoes and faux fur.  In his own words; “There are no rules only interesting mistakes”.

It is interesting to see distinctive trends being shown in a deep and meaningful way. Perhaps it’s a lesson for us all to look at the trends carefully and try to replicate them with what we have before going out and purchasing new.

Note the hot pink – a colour that is staying through Spring2018 and into Fall as well.

Orange and Florals another theme to pick up on or keep hold of…

Tartan has been a feature for awhile – this is proof that it’s here to stay!

Touches of green and yellow seen in several looks for effect. A continuation of the yellow and green seen everywhere this Spring.

Note the pop socks above. You can’t see them so well but they were worn with several outfits and tights pulled over them – perhaps it’s an attempt to simulate stocking boots?

Puffer jackets in bright colours – who doesn’t love these – smile!

If you’re more of a pastel pink person then no worries, there is something for you too…

Red shoes are simply an essential in every wardrobe.

 

John Richmond (born 1960 in Manchester) is an English fashion designer. He  moved from Manchester to London, then eventually Milan. Graduating in fashion design from Kingston University in 1982, he then designed his own collection under his own name, while collaborating with brands such as Armani, Joseph Tricot and Fiorucci. Having close ties with the rock music fashion industry he has dressed many famous stars; Madonna, George Michael, Lady Gaga to name a few.
