Hi Everyone,
Staying at home ย doesn’t come easy for most of us. If we knew the exact end date it would be so much easier to cope with. We could really plan to make the most out of what ever time we have at home.
However the uncertainty in our current state means that we will all be having fluctuating moods. On a down day it’s important to realise it’s not just you and that the next day will inevitably feel better. Yesterday was super cold and snowy here with dark skies – you can imagine where my own mood was. Today the sun is shining and suddenly hope and new ideas fill the air…
All this made me think back to last year when I was introduced to the 5 Kneipp Pillars on a press trip – see article here. The whole experience left a really lasting impression. What I truly love is the fact that the Kneipp pillars are easy to implement whilst staying at home and the Kneipp products are healthy, sustainable and affordable!
Todays post is helpful for our current situation. It gives you very easy tips how to use the 5 Kneipp Pillars to stay healthy and happy at home…
How to Use the 5 Kneipp Pillars to Stay Healthy and Happy at Home
Pillar 1: Water
Turn your bathroom into your own private spa.
Reserve your bathroom for you alone for say an hour one day a week. Turn it into your own private spa.
This can be either during the day or at night. At night you might want to add some scented candles to get the mood right. Start with a face mask, then a body peeling shower followed by a soak in the bath with your favourite bath oils….

Pillar 2: Nutrition
Now is the time to take even more care about what we eat. Make a special effort to introduce more power foods into your every day diet.
You will find some great tips in the Kneipp online magazine – see here.
Yesterday I made this super tasty tomato, quinoa and mint salad. It went down a treat.
Quinoa is gluten-free, high in protein and one of the few plant foods that contain sufficient amounts of all nine essential amino acids. It can replace other carbs in your diet such as rice, pasta or potatoes.
It is high in fibre, magnesium, B vitamins, iron, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, vitamin E and various beneficial antioxidants. Almost a kitchen must have today!
You might also like to include additional vitamins to your daily diet. Personally I am a great believer in vitamin C.
Pillar 3 – Exercise
Especially now it’s super important to set time aside each day to do some sport.
“Regular daily exercise supports and strengthens your bodyโs auto-immune system and ability to defend against illnesses.”
Be it a 30 minute run or walk outside – respecting social distancing of course.
Great link to Kneipp Back workouts here.
If you are being good about exercise and find yourself with the joy of muscle pain, you might like to try the Kneipp Arnica product line.
Remember doing too much exercise can also be bad for you. Listen to your body and do everything in moderation.
I like to treat myself to one of my favourite Kneipp shower gels after exercise:
Pillar 4 – Plants
Aromatherapy has been proven to be very effective in treating depression and other disorders caused by stress. Now we are all at home it is even more important to make sure you air your home out frequently.
In addition though scented candles can have a great positive effectย ย on the parts of our brain that control stress, anxiety, fear and depression in a natural and non-invasive way.
My favourite is the “Goodbye Stress Hello Energy” scented candle from Kneipp with a combination of mint and rosemary. I tested it in my own home and it really did wonders to lift spirts – smile!
Pillar 5 – Balance
Working from home can have advantages but it is super important to make sure you do keep that work/Life balance. Don’t get caught in the trap of working continuously. Take real time out to spend with your family.
Here are a few tips for maintaining balance in your life:
– Start a special hobby with your family. It might be playing a game or painting or even simply sitting together to watch your favourite show or movie. Install special tea breaks when you all get together.
Try one of my favourite Kneipp herbal teas to break up the day
– Have special designated office hours.
– Turn your phone off for one hour a day. Especially during meal times.
– Take time to practice meditation, even if it is simply once a week.
– Make sleep important and ensure you get enough of it.
Aย lovely bath you might like to try for a better sleep.
