Hi Everyone,
There’s something about monochrome that makes it seem almost like an institution. Whilst we talk about fashion trends coming and going monochrome simply remains. The style of what you wear in monochrome may change but the principle is a classic staple.
This post gives you three top tips for styling monochrome. Keep reading for the full story!
How to Style Monochrome – 3 Top Tips
Buying a monochrome outfit should be thought of a little like buying furniture. It’s going to stick around a long time so make sure it is really something you love and the quality is top!
Now for the 3 Top Tips:
Tip 1: Buy an outfit plus 1
When it comes to styling monochrome it’s always good to go with your mood of the day too. If you have an outfit plus one more piece in exactly the same colour you will have more options to wear your monochrome look for different occasions.
For example the first outfit; top and trousers look like a jumpsuit. However the top teamed with matching skirt converts to the perfect office or date night outfit.
Tip 2: Accessorise for the occasion
The pictures above show the outfit teamed up with heels and a clutch, however styling the look with comfy Superga shoes and a cute backpack give a totally different nuance.
This one says I’m ready for Saturday shopping, or it could be a holiday look – off to visit a new city.
Tip 3: All about choosing the right colour
Possibly the most important tip of all! When buying your monochrome outfit make sure to choose a bold colour. Choose one you can identify with and that suits your overall personality.
A pale pastel colour is not going to have the desired effect of giving you a statement monochrome look or outfit. It may be pretty in it’s own right (and I am a fan of pastel pink too as seen in this post), however it will not give you that maximised effect of a bold monochrome outfit.
Various shades of blue have a soft spot in my heart – possibly due to having blue eyes and being blond.
Clutch story:
Clutch from Atelier Avanzar – a bag label created by Margarita, a lovely woman from Ecuador now living in Switzerland. All of her bags are hand made in Ecuador by local women. There is also a special Avanzar foundation that has been set up and profits from the bags go to this foundation which supports sick children and women in need in Ecuador.
I’m currently super excited as a special FunkyForty bag is currently in the throws of being created together with Atelier Avanzar and will be available to buy later this year… stay tuned to see how I designed the bag of my dreams – smile!
