Hi Everyone,
Yes you’re right “island getaway” simply screams for bikini, shorts and t-shirt full stop. However when staying at a luxury resort you will soon feel very out of place if this is all you wear.
This doesn’t mean packing for a luxury island getaway is any more difficult. In fact you should think of it as being a great chance to get out all those pretty summer dresses you haven’t worn in a while. Simply pack a selection of pretty dresses then you can almost not dress wrong.
Of course you won’t always wear dresses so the basics to always pack are:
- Beautiful swimwear
- Shorts that look good on you
- A couple of good t-shirts
- At least one dress per day
- One pair of pretty slides
- One pair of heels
When it comes to dresses to be packed on a luxury island holiday the following criteria are best:
- Dresses that fold down to be very small
- Pieces which don’t crease
- Choose thin floaty fabrics
- Midi to long lengths will always look more elegant and fit perfectly into a luxury island resort environment.
Stay away from:
- Dresses that look like they could be worn into the office
- Thick or stiff fabrics
- Cheap flimsy pieces with bad stitching
Dare to:
- This is certainly the situation where you should dare to wear expensive but slightly see-through dresses! Who cares if others see your underwear – you can always pretend it is really a bikini – smile!

How to Dress Right for a Luxury Island Resort Getaway
This article shows 4 dresses which I packed – and wore for my recent 2 night/3 day luxury island resort getaway.
First rule of thumb is that no matter how hot the weather may be where you are going to, you need to dress warm enough for the plane trip there.
To save space I also have the rule that whatever I wear to go on vacation I will also wear to come home in.
Dress 1:
This lovely green maxi dress with pink moccasins was my perfect goto for the trip.
The dress is a lovely thick cotton and a selection of them can be found online here.
The pink moccasins can be found with tassels online here.
Alternatively you could team this dress with green moccasins or moccasins with a Leo pattern and green trimmings.
Dress 2:
The second dress I took for the gourmet dinner evening. A touch of floaty florals. A dress from 2 years ago but still one of my favourites.
There is a similar dress available – currently on sale – this year but for some reason the lining goes right down to the bottom of the dress. I think this is a shame and would recommend getting the lining shortened.
Dress 3:
A pretty shoe string strap dress will always find its way into my summer vacation suitcase.
I love the fact that although this dress has a satin feel to it, it can easily be washed in the machine at home.
This dress is from last year but available online in other colours this year here.
Dress 4:
The fourth and final dress I took with me is a simple cotton one which came in useful for tripping around the island.
Pictured here at Livingdreams Mallorca which specialise in made to measure furniture and are truly the best suppliers of outdoor all weather furnishings anywhere!
My hat can also be bought here. Not this one of course as it is now sitting here in Zurich with me, waiting for it’s next adventure.
PS: Here is a cute similar dress that’s currently available online.
PS: If you need any luxury island retreat tips – here is one of my favourites!

Hi dear Yvonne thank you for your Blog I truely love your choice of dresses for an luxurious Island and will notice of it for sure thanks again
Love all of these dresses. It makes so much sense to pack dresses for a luxury island vacation since they don’t require that much space in luggage, and the ones you chose are gorgeous. I especially love the pink one. 👍 Thanks for the tips! 🥰🙏
