How to create an outdoor cinema at your home

Hi Everyone,

Summer is in full force – the heat wave is upon us. Well at least in Zurich and the only time to cool down is by sitting outside in the evenings. What a great opportunity to get your own outdoor cinema going!

I live up a little hill in Zurich and at the top there is an official “Kino am Berg” in Summer so I like to call this my own private “Kino am Berg” – smile!

Keep reading to find out how to create an outdoor cinema at your home.

How to create an outdoor cinema at your home

Step 1: Find the right location

Find a blank piece of wall or window blinds that you can use as a screen. Then arrange your garden furniture at a suitable distance to be comfy and resemble the comforts of your own lounge.

We usually have our garden furniture set up against the wall so for this it was a matter of moving it a small distance away from the wall and turning it so that it faced the wall.

If you don’t have a hand white wall or flat surface you could put up a white sheet as your own home screen

Step 2: Invest in a projector

This week weย were asked to test this ever so cute Optoma ML330 projector. We decided it was the perfect opportunity to really make our own outdoor home cinema.

The Optoma ML330 projector was only 122mm * 155mm in size and 460gm. In addition the picture so good…that it looks like we ย may have to add it to become yet another family member – smile!

I mean what could be better than sipping your favourite Summer drink, in your very own garden whilst watching you favourite Netflix show!!!

Some of us call this work – haha! Well I was officially testing this projector so it counts right?

In any case with built-in WiFi and runningย Androidโ„ข(we connectedย our iPad ), ย all you really need is a power cable and the ML 330 projector. Then voila say hello to your home movie set up. I will confess that we are sound junkies so despite there being an integrated 2W loud speaker we decided to attach a separate travelling loud speaker of ours.

Watch this cute 1 minute video for more details.

Key Features in a nutshell:

  • Ultra compact – only 460g
  • Built in Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • HD Ready and LED Technology
  • 500 LED light
  • Built in 2W loudspeaker
  • Automatic Keystone corrector
  • Full 3D Support
  • Compact carry bag included

Currently priced at approximately CHF 499.

Step 3: Prepare your favourite Summer drink and nibbles

My current favourite movieย drink is “Estrella Mojito”. A Spanish wine drink with a subtle peppermint taste to it. At 7.5% alcohol it is perfect for those hot Summer nights.

Currently available online at OBRIST.CH

The nibbles you see on the left are my house specialty. Super easy to prepare:

Pre heat oven to 200ยฐC

Ingredients:

  • 2 sheets of flaky pastry
  • 20 small cubes of cheese
  • 1 egg (beaten with a teaspoon water)
  • little flour for the bench
  • baking paper to line the baking tray

Preparation:

  1. Placeย 1 sheet of pastry on floured benchย and brush with the beaten egg mixture.
  2. Carefully place the cheese cubes evenly across the pastry – I like to do rows 4*5 perfectly aligned.
  3. Placeย the 2nd sheet of pastry carefully on top.
  4. Press down at the gaps between the cheese and then cut into squares.
  5. Place the squares on a baking tray
  6. Bake in a pre heated fan bake oven at 200ยฐC for approximately 15 minutes or until golden.

Now I wish you all a fabulous Summer evening, sit back and relax in the comforts of your own home!
