Hi Everyone,
Interestingly when considering the best trousers to buy for your shape it is often the whole body shape that is taken into account. Leaving shorter people or those with larger stomachs thinking they would never suit wide trousers. Focusing on the shape of your legs is important. However the key is in how the outfit is put together as a whole! Even skinny people can look wrong in trousers if the outfit isn’t put together right.
The following super easy tips are great for those wanting to try a new trouser style. The good news is that many body shapes can wear most trouser styles.
If you already have a pair of trousers that are your favourite and would love to have another made my tip of the day is Vestiaire Personnel. An online made to order shop with an unparalleled collection of trousers and fabrics to customise.
Keep reading for “How to Choose the Right Trousers for Your Shape”. Out-of-the-box tips that will show you how to wear any trouser style and still look great! The post is split into two parts – one for those with short legs and the other for long legs…
How to Choose the Right Trousers for Your Shape
Short Legs:
Short Legs: Skinny legs and body:
Concentrate on making your outfits more feminine with floaty fabrics. Also focus on getting a longer leg. Stick to higher waisted trousers to elongate the legs. Wear heels with everything if you can. 2022 is being kind to you as platform shoes are back on the hot list. Your chance to wear heels while still having the flat shoe feeling!
You can also elongate your body when wearing sneakers and skinny trousers/ jeans by adding a long sleeveless vest worn open on top. This diverts from the length of the legs to the overall look.
Favourite trouser style: High waist simple straight leg.
Short Legs: Skinny legs, fuller stomach:
Keep trousers high waisted. You can still wear whatever style trousers you like but be sure to tuck your top in a little at one side when wearing wider trousers – this will make sure some shape is kept to the overall look whilst not focusing on the stomach.
Whilst tops should be worn to about hip level stay away from extra long tops as these will make you look even shorter.
Boot-cut trousers could be fun provided they are worn extra long covering a pair of high heels underneath. Once again take out your favourite platforms for comfort – smile.
Beware of long sleeveless vests as depending on the fabric and thickness these can simply add unattractive bulkiness to the overall outfit.
Favourite trousers style: straight leg full length or longer if worn with heels.
Short Legs: Chunky legs, skinny body
Wear plenty of figure hugging tops with wider trouser styles. When wearing super skinny trousers team them with longer tops to hide the widest part of your legs. A long skinny top which finishes at the knees will truly elongate the body.
Favourite trouser style: lower waist boot cut worn extra long, teamed with heels and a skinny top.
Short Legs: Chunky legs and body
Whichever trouser style you choose your trousers should not cling all the way down your leg. Make sure the waistband is not too tight. Stick to good quality fabrics.
Make sure your tops are not too long. They should finish just at your widest part to make you optically a little taller. Wear tops that do not cling to your body. Keep them interesting and of exceptional quality. Sticking to blazer style tops or good quality beautiful blouses/shirts are a great option. T-shirts can be tricky.
Also focus on wearing beautiful colours and lovely statement jewellery to really polish off your outfit.

Concentrate on making your outfits more feminine with floaty fabrics. Wear beautiful flat sandals or chunky sneakers. Lower waisted trousers will look great on you.
A long sleeveless vest worn open on top of your outfits will add a beautiful touch of femininity.
Favourite trouser style: Lower waist boot cut.
Long Legs: Skinny legs, fuller stomach:
You can still wear whatever style trousers you like but be sure your tops are long enough to cover the widest part of you. Stick to higher waisted trousers.
Straight cut trousers look great even when teamed up with flat shoes. 7/8 trousers also look fabulous.
Long Legs: Chunky legs, skinny body
Wear plenty of figure hugging tops with wider trouser styles. When wearing super skinny trousers team them with longer tops to hide the widest part of your legs. Tuck in your tops a little in the front to show off your waist. Letting longer tops then drape over the side of your hips will give a slimming effect.
High waisted trousers are a good option as they will give a super feminine appearance. Wider legged floaty trousers would be my favourite.
Favourite trousers style: straight cut worn extra long with heels.
