Hi Everyone,
It’s that time of year when we’re all hibernating amongst thick woollen sweaters – or at least that’s what we’d like to be doing. Only I for one am always super careful about how many chunky knits I own at any one time. After all they take up so much space and you really can only successfully wear them outside on the coldest of cold days.
…This was my thinking until I discovered possum-merino knits. The photos in today’s post were taken in New Zealand in Spring. Despite it being relatively warm these knits still feel super soft, warm but not too hot. They even folded away into a very small package.
These knits are made by Noble Wilde in Christchurch New Zealand, and I’m super excited to tell you that there is a lovely selection of possum-merino knits available in the House of Scotland store, right in the heart of Zurich city.

How I Style My Possum-Merino Knit All Year Round
Let’s start with winter
Possum fibre traps heat better than almost anything else so winter styling truly does become effortless.
I like to wear a chunky knit with slim fitting trousers for a contrast between top and bottom. On super chilly days I’ll often wear a second sweater. Either draped over the shoulders or wrapped tightly around the neck like a scarf.
Autumn and spring
Autumn and spring are when I like to play with light weight scarves to elevate my possum-merino knit. Lately I’ve become a real fan of simply tying my hair back with a largish light weight scarf in the same tones as my sweater and pants and then letting it drape over the front and back as shown above.
Another styling trick of mine is to wear the. scarf in a triangle around my hips. Important is that the scarf tones in with the rest of the outfit.
This particular sweater is one of my favourites as I love how the knit at the bottom really allows to show off a bit of waist.
My third styling tip is to wear the scarf wrapped around the neck – this can also be done over a turtle neck sweater.
Note: House of Scotland in Zurich is where I find my favourite possum-merino sweaters in a variety of colours. They also have super pretty possum.merino capes.
Summer:
Yes – I’ll even wear my possum-merino in summer. Did you know that possum-merino is both naturally cooling and UV-resistant? …Well there’s a fun fact for you – smile!
In many countries – particularly New Zealand, it still tends to get chilly in summer. This sleeveless cardigan/vest is absolutely perfect for those times. Also great when boating.
My favourite way to style this is not to over think it and simply slip on top of a short sleeve t-shirt. Warm, but not too warm at the same time!
