Do you ever crave to run away and forget about everything else around you?
The Alpina Mountain Resort & Spa Tschiertschen, is the perfect place for such a break. Located in the Swiss Canton of Grisons – 10 km from Chur to be precise. I just spent 24 hours there last week and can’t wait to go back. Newly restored to life in 2015 the resort really is a little luxury paradise in the middle of a very charming mountain village. Some say it’s where time romantically stays still!
I can see why the “Sonntagszeitung.ch” nominated it to be within the top 20 Nice Price hotels within Switzerland.

Going Back to the Roots in Luxury – Romantik Hotel Alpina Mountain Resort & Spa, Tschiertschen
After a mere 1.5 hour drive from Zurich we arrived at our wonderful mountain retreat!
A little history
The Alpina Mountain Resort & Spa dates back to 1897. Built by Christian Hold from Arosa. Today it has 27 rooms and suites, two restaurants, a stylish cocktail bar and an exclusive spa zone. The charm, of the twenties, in which the hotel experienced its previous golden period, have been preserved in its walls to this day.
Like most resorts it also had it’s down time but was then restored to life due to the most unusual happenings! Two locals sent photos of the building to a Malaysian business man, Teo Ah Khing. Based on these photos alone he decided to invest and restore the hotel back to it’s original beauty – if not more so! Having since visited several times he himself has fallen in love with Tschiertschen. In his own words:

The reception area
Note the cookies at reception making us instantly feel at home and a little introduction to the wonderful food that we would later experience.
Lunch
First things first. It was just before 12:00 as we arrived – perfect time for a little Aperol Spritz followed by lunch!
Our room
Each room looks a little different and this is not a picture of our room as we literally made a mess the minute we stepped inside…but it looked very similar in size – smile!
Exploring the village
There are loads of different walking tracks you can do directly from the hotel. Arosa would be one option although it’s a full day track at 4.5 hours each way. There are also tracks right up to the Schwarzhorn at 2683m.
We decided to settle for a small walk around the village. One of the prettiest I have ever seen.

This is such a pretty time of year to be visiting, with all the Spring flowers out in full bloom!
Time for some Spa Treatment
16:00 and it was time for our massage. I really had one of the best massages ever and felt fabulous afterwards. There’s a whole menu of treatments to choose from. Our masseuse came from Thailand and certainly knew how to get those knots out!
The massage was followed by some suntanning and a dip in the cute secluded spa pool with views of the neighbouring mountain peaks.
Dinner

I went with my dear friend Brenda – so lovely to have a some girly time away. As I know you’re prob interested in what we wore. Here are a couple of pictures. We dressed up a little but it would have been ok to simply wear nice casual clothing too.

Time to leave
The next morning and already time to go – we had such a relaxing time. Thank you so much for treating us so wonderfully.
At 1.5 hours’ drive from Zurich I can really recommend a trip to The Alpina Mountain Resort & Spa, Tschiertschen as a lovely weekend or even week vacation to recharge batteries!
Best of all is the incredible value for money you get when staying here. I can see why the “Sonntagszeitung.ch” nominated it to be within the top 20 Nice Price hotels within Switzerland.
