One of the most awesome things about living in Zurich is that even with cold weather and Fall in full force in Zurich, a mere 2.5 hour drive will take you to the land of sunshine and warmth. This is exactly what we did last weekend. Two nights at  Villa Orselina. A lovely hotel set up in the hills by Locarno in the village Orselina. The break was so great we returned to Zurich on Sunday feeling as though we’d had a weeks holiday.

Fabulous Fun at Villa Orselina – Ticino

Arriving Friday evening to a fabulous welcome including the car door being opened for me and luggage instantly taken off my hands…What more could one want after a long journey.

We were super lucky to be given one of the panorama suites:

Friday evening with Jacky Donatz

The fun began with a great dinner party cooked by star chef Jacky Donatz (15 Gault-Millau points plus more) and his team who came all the way for the occasion. Cooking us the most wonderful traditional Swiss food in a way that simply made our mouths water.

Saturday – Yoga

Nothing like starting the day with Yoga. Gabriela Ghenzi gives yoga lessons at Villa Orselini every Saturday morning from 9:00 – 10:00. Carefully leading us through the steps of Sun Salutation the sun shone really bright that morning despite forecasted rain. (nb: can’t guarantee this always happens – smile, but definitely worth a try).

 

Breakfast

Getting hungry just thinking about it… This is where I have to reiterate we were sitting outside enjoying the sun at breakfast whilst it was super cold and rainy in Zurich.

Of course in true Italian style there was plenty of sweets to choose from too… love Italian style breakfast.

 

Baywatch time

Unbelievable, here we are late September in Switzerland and off we go swimming. Admittedly the water is heated to a deliciously warm temperature.

To be honest I was quite happy pretending to extend my yoga lesson on a sun bed…

However after some sweet talking by Julia…

You see what happens!

Note the swan belongs to the hotel and is there for all guests. Needless to say we weren’t the only ones having fun with it that Saturday!

Afternoon relaxation

My hubby and I went into Lugano for the afternoon. It holds a special spot in our hearts as it is where we found my wedding dress almost 20 years ago now!

Back in the hotel it was time to divide and conquer as Reto head for the fitness room:

…and I checked out the spa area,  tucked away behind this magical corridor:

Lots of treatments to choose from and a lovely indoor pool too!

 

Saturday dinner

Despite there being a wedding that night we decided to stay at Villa Orselina to experience one of their usual dinners. We ate in a special room that evening but you couldn’t tell at all there was a wedding as well.

Of course accompanied by fabulous wine from the wine cellar. The wine cellar has all sorts of secrets in it including a wine press from 1663!
