Every Little Thing You Do Counts - plus the Latest FunkyForty Favourite Shops Update

Hi Everyone,

Right now we all find ourselves in a state of uncertainty. It is disconcerting not knowing how things are going to move forward whilst we are in the midst of the corona virus pandemic. ย However one day this will be over – it is ever so important that we all focus on this and know it to be true.

In the mean time it really is important to keep on living. Keep on looking after ourselves, our loved ones and on keeping our economy going. Last weekend I was ever so pleased at taking part in the AMEX shop small campaign.

Shopping small/local is so much more important than most of us give it credit for. It’s not just abut helping local businesses survive. Every little thing you do counts and especially when it comes to buying local.

I’m not saying go out there and buy what you don’t need. However I am saying before you sit down in front of your computer for another online shopping spree think of the following:

The Domino Effect

Helping your local business survive will lead in turn to them also being able to continue paying their suppliers, employees, social bills and much more. In the end every local shop You support will end up being of benefit to You in some way too!

The Mental Health aspect

Whilst it might be convenient to shop with the huge conglomerates online, a physical trip to your local shop will give you so much more. Fresh air, a little exercise, meeting and greeting new people. Brain stimulation – your mind is open to so much more. Every purchase you make in a local store leaves you with a lovely memory.

Keeping our identities

Remember large conglomerates are going to stick to mainstream items that are sure to sell. If you do shop online, stick to the small niche stores. Make an effort to shop with businesses that are doing something good for society – Atelier Avanzar is one of my favourite recommendations. ย Vanessa Martinelli is another favourite for online shopping with her beautiful original collection of silk garments and unique jewellery pieces.

I am totally in love wit my new blue bag that is perfect for both the city or weekend trips into the countryside. I could choose every last piece of this bag right down tot he colour of stitching. Bags start at CHF 250 and this one would cost around CHF 350 – why not treat yourself or a loved one to a bespoke bag for Christmas.

Vanessa Martinelli

I am totally in love with the Caramello silk collection.

Exceptional fabrics from a family-run business in Como, Italy โ€“ the ancient silk capital of the world โ€“ form the foundation of Vanessa Martinelliโ€™s exquisite silkwear collection. Italian artisans carefully sew each item by hand, ensuring the luxurious fabrics drape beautifully and the iconic candy motifs gently shimmer across the flattering silhouettes.

My current love is the blue bag pictures above – it is the perfect size for shopping. Not to mention the perfect size for my camera too! Beautifully lined with plenty of pockets for small items so my keys etc are always super easy to find.
