Culottes are one of those pieces of clothing that are totally underestimated and forgotten about by many. Today I had to swallow hard as a friend stated she never bothered to get a pair because they are only ever in fashion for 5 minutes at a time…. So far from the truth!
Fact is that the fashion houses have been desperately trying to bring both wide legged trousers and culottes into the forefront and eliminate skinny jeans.
Skinny jeans seem to have similar characteristics to weeds. You simply can’t get rid of them no matter how hard you try. This does not however, mean that culottes are out of fashion. In fact Spring 2018 sees them back on the HOT list with vengeance.
Culottes are here to stay – the trick to styling them!
Culottes have a real identity of their own. Unlike jeans which you can wear as sloppy as you like and still get away with it. Culottes need to be styled purposefully.

The trick to styling culottes is in the matching. With todays outfit I chose blue pumps to match the culottes. Then a red bag with blue stripes to tie back to the culottes and red bakers cap to match back to the bag. The sweater tones in with the stripes on the bag. As remote as it may seem there is no one lonely piece of clothing in this look. Each colour is replicated somewhere.
It’s in the Length
When buying culottes make sure they don’t finish just at the widest part of your lower leg. Follow this one rule and then it is easy to make your culottes flattering.
Wear sneakers or heels – the choice is yours but remember to match your footwear with another piece of the outfit.

The new trend in town 😉 Those culottes are very nice and what I like with them is that it reveal the shoes much better than pants and in this case your beautiful blue stilettos!

Culottes can be a wardrobe’s best friend when fitted properly to one’s leg length . I’ve always loved them . I wore a black pair to a friend’s wedding back in the late 80’s and remember this as being edgy 😉😊
