Cosy Elegance: Pre-Christmas Interior Design Ideas

Cosy Elegance: Pre-Christmas Interior Design Ideas

Hi Everyone,

As the first Advent approaches, there’s nothing quite like tweaking your home a little. Personally I love adding special  nuances inside to simply make everything seem a little cosier. It’s my way of focusing on the positive rather than the cold, often dreary weather outside.

Once again I’ve taken a trip to visit the lovely Livingdreams showroom in Meilen, Zurich to chat with the experts and get some new inspiration. This is what they tell me:

This year it’s time to embrace the beauty of pre-Christmas with a touch of cosy elegance, plush furnishings and the colour green.

How exciting, I eagerly begin my pre-Christmas interior design tour at Livingdreams, Meilen, with Nicole Hoch (owner), diligently making notes to pass the tips on to you!

  1. A Bed Fit for Winter

The best place to start decorating for winter is the bedroom. Layering your bed with plenty of cushions of different sizes and textured coverings.

Opt for rich furry throws at the end of your bed paired with crisp sheets. Bringing a wintery yet sophisticated look to your sleeping space. Adding a plush carpet under the bed will not only look great but give you a whole new feeling each morning as you get out of bed.

You might even consider the present of a new Soho box spring bed which contains 12 separate layers for perfect comfort. Why not test one at the Livingdreams showroom in Meilen.

All items available at Livingdreams, Meilen Zurich, who also accept customised orders by phone ( +41 44 793 30 33)  and ship internationally.

2. Tables and Chairs that Tell a Story

Make your dining room extra special with a statement table.

This is one piece that can really set the mood for your whole home. It is the place where everyone gets together, often where the best conversations take place. Lift every day in your life with a statement table you fall in love with.

The table above will give you the feeling of being in the great outdoors whilst enjoying the cosiness of your own home.

Note the chair above – this is the “Umekomi Chair”, designed by Nicole Hoch herself during COVID times. It has been especially designed to be comfortable for everyone, both tall and short.

I can vouch that I for one didn’t want to get up again after sitting down to test it. There is a huge range of fabric coverings to choose from. The chairs have deliberately also been covered in fabric to avoid the problem of too many wood tones between tables, floors and chairs. They are specially impregnated, making them easy to clean.

This table too, is much more than simply a table. It is a functional piece of art. A piece to be passed down through generations to come.

Adorn your table with select pieces of art. The vases here are another perfect example of functional art in the home. Go one step further and select statement lighting to complete the whole setting.

Today’s dining room is no longer simply about having a table and set of chairs. It’s about creating a unique atmosphere in your home.

3. Elegant Table Setting

A well-set dining table can be the heart of your pre-Christmas decor. Under the motto “more is More”, create a special setting for each person at the table. Use the effects of layering and different textured place mats as shown above.

Note that the place settings do not all have to be the same – you can create two different looks to add interest to the table.

Whenever I have guests, I may be running late with the food (smile), but the table is always set well in advance.  Creating a welcoming atmosphere from the start.

4. Green Soft Furnishings

The colour green provides a sense of calmness, it relaxes the nerves and sets minds at ease.

Incorporate green soft furnishings throughout your home to tie your pre-christmas look together. From velvet green cushions on the sofa to a soft green throw over an armchair, these touches add a cohesive and festive flair.

Nicole Hoch says, the key is to balance the green elements with neutral tones to keep the space elegant and not overwhelming. She likes to play with different textures combined together and especially at Christmas, add a touch of “living green” from the garden.

There is a huge variety of green furnishings available at the Livingdreams showroom in Meilen, Zurich. From plush carpets, pretty cushion covers, chairs, curtains, the list goes on.
