Colour Psychology – the Power of Adding Orange

Hi Everyone,

Ooof, waking up to a rainy Monday during summer vacation with a whole week and more of rain scheduled in the weather forecast can be hard… Even the most cheerful of people can have their spirits dampened. However instead of letting the weather get the better of us, let’s think about one of the simplest things we can do to make us and others around us happy – colour psychology!

One of my favourite stories to tell is of when I worked in the corporate finance world I used to wear a bright pink and orange cardigan under my suit to work. It was such a non-conventional thing to wear to the office then. However, one day a previous boss of mine travelled half an hour across the city in the hope I would be wearing that cardigan and lift his spirts!

Orange is associated with happiness, optimism, and enthusiasm, making it a great choice to boost your mood and energy levels. You don’t have to wear a fully blown orange outfit as this can get a bit much and orange is a difficult colour for many people to wear. However wearing orange accessories can make a big happiness difference to both you and others around you.

In today’s post I am. wearing orange with a pretty new baby blue dress from Doodlage – A super interesting brand with many different sustainability initiatives all packed into one.

Colour Psychology – the Power of Adding Orange

Here’s why orange can be just the colour you need on a rainy day:

Positive and optimistic: Orange is a cheerful colour that can promote feelings of joy and happiness. (remember the story above about the orange cardigan)

Warm and inviting: It gives you a feeling of warmth, security, and cosiness.

Stimulating and energetic: Orange can help you feel more active, alert, and ready to take on the day.

Social and outgoing: Being lovely and bright, orange can help make you feel more confident and outgoing in social situations.

Creative and adventurous: Many people stay away from wearing bright colours. The mere fact that you dare to do so shows a person that’s willing to take risks, be bold and be seen. It’s a great colour to wear when starting something new.

So I challenge you all to add a piece of orange to your outfit today and bring a little smile to both you and another person!

  1. No need to challenge me to wear orange. I do it all the time and love it. Like you, I have paired blue with orange for a great effect.
Love this outfit and all items separately too.
