The Christmas Cookie Wreath

Pre heat oven to 200°

Line oven tray with a sheet of baking paper

Ingredients
  • 175g butter
  • 75g brown sugar
  • 1tsp vanilla suger
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1tbsp milk
  • 250g flour
Recipe
  1. Place all ingredients except for flour in a bowl and using a hand mixer, mix thoroughly until smooth and pale in consistency –
  2. Add flour and combine well.
  3. You may need to use your hands to finally combine the mixture.
  4. Place mixture in fridge and leave to cool for at least 30 mins.
  5. Meanwhile place a round cake tin on the baking paper lined tray and draw around to give you a circle to work with once the cookie dough has cooled.

…after 30 mins

Take the dough out and roll to 5mm thickness. Using a star cookie cutter cut shapes and place them evenly around the circle template created above. Then place a second layer in between to give the wreath stability.

I’ve just fallen in love with these super easy to use cookie cutters from Migros.ch.

They really made the whole process super fast with their easy push through mechanism – and I love the fact they come in a set of three different sizes…  the Wreath will look nicer if you use different sized shapes.

Once you’ve cut all your stars out and cooled them. Place them outside or in fridge to cool for 15 mins.

Then place in the lower third of oven and bake for 10 – 12 minutes.

Finishing touches

Once the baked wreath has cooled mix a little lemon juice and icing sugar to form a thin paste and lightly coat the wreath. Then sprinkle with a few colourful sugar balls.

Leave to dry and then as a final touch sprinkle icing sugar over wreath and add silk ribbon for the ultimate effect!

If you are really running out of time you can always cheat a little by getting some pre packaged cookie dough from Migros.ch – provided you are really quiet and dispose of the packaging carefully no one will ever know the difference – smile!
