Grand Hotel Tremezzo

Hi Everyone,

Lake Como is one of my most favourite places ever. No matter how many times we go back there’s always something new to discover. A sense of magic lingers in the air.

Whilst shopping in Como centre is always great fun there are so many other treasures to discover further along the lake. This article shows you a pictorial view of my personal favourite hotel along the lake, has links to other places to stay closer to Como, plus highlights a few great things to do during your stay.

Grand Hotel Tremezzo

Where to Stay:

Grand Hotel Tremezzo

I still remember the first time my hubby brought me here. It was a surprise for our wedding anniversary and – possibly due to the romantic memories – has remained a favourite hotel ever since!

The Grand Hotel Tremezzo was purposefully built as a hotel and opened back in July 1910. Obviously many others before me had romantic memories there. Recently a whole collection of letters containing romantic love stories were found hidden in a secret wardrobe. Who knows what else is hidden, just waiting to be discovered…

Our Room

Grand Hotel Tremezzo

Decorated in the most plush style of it’s original day yet with every possible modern touch one could wish for.

The Gardens

Grand Hotel Tremezzo

Set in the most beautiful of gardens – a walk to the very top and back could easily take you half an hour or longer. This is the pool at the back of the villa but there is another floating pool out front.

Wellness area

A whole selection of treatments available as well as a wonderful indoor pool and adjacent outdoor jacuzzi….

Lounge

I just love this place, the colourful sofas seem to take your every worry/bad thought away and let you melt into a vision of candy – smile!

Dining

There are five restaurants and bars to choose from. We tried out the new L’ESCALE TRATTORIA & WINE BAR… even here you can choose to sit outside with full lake view or inside with the cosy wine bar atmosphere.

Terrace dining for lunches. Similar but with beautiful starched white tablecloths for the evening…

Breakfast

Not only the magnificent 180° lake views will entice you to join for breakfast. This is seriously the most opulent breakfast room I have ever seen with a magnificent array of round tables filed with every breakfast delicacy imaginable…

Summary

One of the things that strikes most is the incredibly competent and friendly staff. Making you feel at home from the instant you arrive until you leave.

When we left we stepped into a car that had already been equipped with water bottles for travelling.

What to do:

Villa Carlotta

Dating back to the 17th Century this beautiful property is situated right next door to the Grand Hotel Tremezzo. In fact originally the whole land area now belonging to the hotel used to be a part of the Villa Carlotta estate. The gardens themselves are worth visiting any time of year.

When we first visited the villa with our daughter she was still very little and adamantly decided that it must be her villa as there was an ornate letter “C” to be found everywhere and her name begins with “C”.

Villa del Balbianello

Situated right on the shoes of the lake this stunning villa is about a 20 minute walk from the Grand Hotel Tremezzo. You could also take a ferry but this takes about 35 minutes.

Interesting to note is the number of feature films that have used this location for shooting, including A Month by the Lake (1995), His Demise starring Paul Zukowski (2016 disaster movie), Casino Royale (2006). The villa was also used for the lake retreat scenes in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones (2002).

The location can also be hired for weddings!

Bellagio

Bellagio is a village on a promontory jutting out into Lake Como, directly oposite Tremezzo and easy to get to by boat. The cobble stoned village is a real treat for shopping local crafts or simply sitting drinking Prosecco enjoying another view of the lake.

It’s also famous for the fact that both George Clooney and Richard Branson own villas here.

For more information about Bellagio see here.

Boats trips along the lake

You can easily rent your own water taxi from the Grand Hotel Tremezzo or alternatively take one of the cheap and cheerful ferry boat trips along the lake.

For more about the boat service see here.

  2. OMG! What a trip down memory lane you’ve taken me on. I had the pleasure of staying on Como a couple of years ago. We went to the Italian GP in Monza and staying in Fagetto Lario – stunning too. We visited some of the places you’ve mentioned and now want to go back again. You look super elegant as well, thanks for sharing your lovely post. Jacqui Mummabstylish

  3. Lake Como is definitely on my list of places to spend more time at. Everything in your hotel looks incredible, but I think I love the lounge the most.
