It’s that time of year again with the Baselworld trade show revealing latest trends and collections of the world’s most famous watch brands as well as giving the opportunity for younger or new brands to show their works. With 1’500 exhibitors truly exquisite show in which you can simply loose yourself within the wonderful realms of luxury and design.
“Beauty has no Boundaries” appears to be this years Baselworld motto. It’s my 2nd time to go there and first time of actually going to the press conference. Interesting to note that the evolution of “clever” watches such as the apple watch is not really impacting the traditional watch industry – whilst successful their success in particular that of the apple watch has not been as expected. At the same time look out for new additional features in the most sophisticated watches Basel 2016 has to offer!
This year saw the launch of the new Bucherer logo- bringing the brand closer to it’s Lucerne heritage.
Baselworld 2016 – 6 Super Watches:
1. The Heuer Monza Chronograph – TAG Heuer
Simply had to try this one on … Originally designed in 1976 to celebrate Niki Lauda’s first world championship title with FERRARI, todays version also had a pulsometer (to measure heart rate) and a tachymeter scale (converts time into speed). The case now made of grade 5 titanium (previously steel), making it lighter and more shock resistant. The original Heuer Monza is hugely sought after by collectors and over the same is likely to happen to this version as well.
Going past their stand the Jazzmaster Face 2 Face II was too fascinating to simply walk past. Originally created in 2013 this year sees Jazzmaster Face 2 Face II with a 60 hour power reserve. The front has 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph counters as well as a day-date. The back features a pulsometer, tachymeter and a telemeter (calculates distances to a remote event, such as a lightning bolt).
Hamilton was founded in 1892 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA and is now a member of the Swatch Group. Their watches are combination of the American spirit with Swiss precision.
Prevailing with their designs during Fashion Week Creative Director Alessandro Michele has carried through the themes into this years watch and jewellery collection. The neo gothic theme is seen with embroidered watch faces. Emphasis has been placed on nature with cute bees featuring on many pieces. The trend for women would appear to be dainty with detail.
We saw the introduction of the fur watch last year so seeing the “Fendi My Way Karlito” did bring a giggle :
But Fendi’s innovation for 2016 is all about the Policromia:
If you’re looking for that hot fashion statement the FENDI Policromia is the perfect answer. Brilliant cut white diamonds set the time on the case and dial, paired with refined inserts of real stones — malachite and green mother of pearl; or lapis lazuli and blue mother-of-pearl. White and yellow gold add their timeless value enhanced by black rhodium-plated yellow gold.
A cyborg attitude and Greek echoes perfectly meet together in Policromia, blending tradition and innovation, values dear to FENDI, while attracting with its vibes a self-confident woman looking for the highest sophistication.
Love it – four time zones, each powered with their own individual crown all in one watch. The upper surface is made of sturdy brushed titanium and can come with either a ceramic or carbon fibre case. “Time to the power of four so as to keep in step with four regions at once.” Perfect for the business traveller.
6. Cabestan
SCUDERIA FERRARI ONE
The relationship between watches and cars seemed to feature even more than ever this year. This watch was created by working with the Ferrari design team based in Italy. Characteristic elements in Ferrari’s Formula 1 race cars: materials, shapes, surfaces, etc. had to be defined and then designed into a new case that captures the emotions of Ferrari.
Made of the same titanium alloy used for components of Ferrari Formula One cars. The motor is perfectly visible with its large wheel, stylishly engraved aluminium rotary drums and carbon-fiber bridge. On the sides, a special magnesium alloy which creates likeness of the wheels and lug nuts emblematic of motor sports. Even the leather strap, captures the emotion of the Daytona leather seats of Ferrari automobiles. An amazingly accurate (± 1 second per days) watch .
If you’re planning to go there’s still time as Baselworld 2016 is on until 24 March 2016
