Hi Everyone,
This summer my daughter and I embarked on a magical journey to the heart of South Tyrol, where we stayed at the enchanting Amolaris Private Garden Chalets & Residence. Nestled in the middle of Europe’s largest apple orchard, this hidden gem has the perfect mix of luxury and tranquility in one.
We felt totally at home the minute we stepped inside our chalet. So much so that my daughter told me several times this is exactly the type of chalet she would like to live in permanently. I definitely fell in love with the idea of having one’s own private spa pool in the garden. Will have to talk to Hubby about that one- smile!

How it all began
Amolaris Private Garden Chalets & Residence is owned and operated by the Kaserer family. It started off as a 6 bedroom residence which the family decided they would like to enlarge upon in some way.
One birthday Mrs Kaserer was given a gift voucher to visit a similar chalet concept residence in Austria. Both she and her husband really fell in love with the idea.
One thing lead to another and as a result the beautiful Amolaris Private Garden Chalets & Residence was created.
Our Chalet
There are 8 chalets in total and 6 residences in the original main building.
Each of the chalets are individually designed with a private walled garden complete with sauna, spa pool and electric lawn mower.
Each chalet has a fully equipped kitchen.
They each have one bedroom area with super comfy double bed. The sofa in the lounge also doubles up as a bed for families with children.
We absolutely loved the walk through shower in our room. All of the bathroom amenities were eco friendly with bars instead of gels.
Having our own private spa pool was our absolute favourite thing. I soon learnt not to go in when Cassia is hungry – smile!
Breakfast:
Each day we could simply fill out our wishes for breakfast the next day and then it would all arrive in a lovely layered wooden box by 7:30am the next morning.
It was so nice to taste different foods from the carefully chosen local suppliers. Some of the jams etc are even made on site by Mrs Kaserer herself.
Dinner:
As each chalet has a fully equipped kitchen, dinner is totally up to you with several options. You can of course buy your own food and cook. Alternatively you can choose from a menu of freshly prepared 3 course dinners which are then delivered into your kitchen and you just need to do the last minute final cooking stages. Each course only takes a few minutes to prepare and the end result was delicious.
We chose gnocchi, and then fish with vegetables followed by chocolate mousse. Unfortunately desert was devoured before I had a chance to photograph – smile!
If you don’t feel like cooking there are plenty of lovely restaurants close by. We tried Speckeggele in Schlanders one night. A lovely family run restaurant where the daughter Victoria both hunts her own food and cooks the most amazing dishes, dad is a brilliant sommelier and mum the perfect host.
This is what we ate:
Our tip is to go on Friday night as this is when the whole village turns into a party with music and fun games to play. The shops stay open till late as well.
Afternoon tea:
On Friday when we got back to Amolaris after a fun day out we were treated to the most delicious afternoon tea…
THINGS TO DO:
There are plenty of very pretty hiking routes which can be done from the property.
An absolute must is to do a tour of the apple orchard. We learnt so many fun things about growing bio apples – there has certainly been a huge evolvement in this area over the past few years. This can be booked at reception.
5 fun facts we learnt:
- You can tell the difference between a bio orchard to non bio by simply looking at the base of the trees. Non bio orchids have no grass growing around the tree trunks.
- South Tyrol is the largest orchard in the whole of Europe, producing 30% of Europe’s apples.
- Branches of apple trees are purposefully tied downwards with string so that the tree will produce more fruit.
- Even bio apples are sprayed these days with magnesium against yellow leaves and stone powder against disease.
- There is a new trend apple which is both red inside and out. It’s name is “Kissable” so keep a watch for it in your local fruit and veggie store.
Shopping in Merano
With its lovely baroque buildings and mountain views Merano has to be one of the prettiest places to shop ever.
We were super lucky to hit high sale season. Am not sure our bank accounts were so happy mind you – smile!
Conclusion:
The Amolaris Private Garden Chalets & Residence provided the perfect setting for our mother-daughter getaway with its lovely blend of luxury, nature and heartfelt hospitality. Cassia is already asking me when we can go back. Admittedly she has also decided next time she isn’t leaving without an apple tree to take home – smile!
We both really recommend this place for anyone needing to rejuvenate and escape their busy every day lives.
