A Fairytale Moment at the Kempinski Palace Engelberg Titlis

A Fairytale Moment at the Kempinski Palace Engelberg Titlis

Hi Everyone,

As if this first picture didn’t already say it all…

Imagine driving to the main entrance of a stunning Belle-Epoque-era property and having the car door opened by doormen. Meanwhile snowflakes gently patter down all around. Bells are ringing in the distance, soon to be accompanied by horse and carriage drawing close.

Then a few stairs later entering into a fabulously spacious, modern design with old charm hotel foyer. I literally stood there stunned as the most magnificent Christmas tree loomed ahead with the cutest electric train chugging around it.

Engelberg

As an introduction, Engelberg is an alpine town in central Switzerland – only just over 1 hours drive from Zurich. It is also the largest winter and summer holiday destination in Central Switzerland.

Plenty of hiking trails weave up Mt. Titlis with great skiing in winter. The revolving Titlis Rotor gondola lift takes you right to the summit. A trip you can take even if you don’t ski. There is also the Titlis Cliff Walk suspension bridge and a glacial park. The glacial lake Trübsee lies nearby. On the Northeast, Rigidalstock mountain’s steep face is lined with via ferrets (climbing ladders). A real live adventure park to be sure!

Kempinski Palace Engelberg Titlis

The Kempinski Palace Engelberg Titlis is newly renovated, having just opened it’s doors end of June 2021. The management team of this hotel are also responsible for the sister hotel Fruit Mountain Resort in Melchsee-Frutt.

The building itself dates back to the late 19th century and the hotel was originally called the Europäischerhof. The new Kempinski Palace Engelberg revitalises the luxury hotel segment which has been scarce in central Switzerland. In addition to bringing increasingly wealthy guests to Engelberg, it also created 130 new jobs inside the hotel. Experience has shown that for every 3 jobs inside such a hotel an additional job is created outside the hotel.

Fun fact: Did you know that every Kempinski hotel has at least one Lady in Red. She is there to welcome every guest and help with all our wishes. Acting as a brand ambassador and knows everything there is to know about the hotel and destination.

Rooms and suites

The Kempinski Palace Engelberg has 129 rooms and suites. I loved the floor and bed details. Elite box spring mattresses in each room made sure we slept perfectly.

Incredible attention to detail with the option of smaller or larger slippers, huge pillow menu and non-allergy duvets.

Each room has a fabulous mountain view. When we arrived mine was invisible due to the sky being totally grey but then the next morning the beautiful mountain facade decided to show itself after all.

Dining:

Cattani Restaurant:

Dinner on the first night was in the Cattani Restaurant. Despite there being 120 seats indoors and an additional 70 outside during summer, one really had the feeling of cosiness.

Here is what we ate – carefully prepared using seasonal produce from local producers by chef Michele Müller.

The Cattani Restaurant is also where breakfast is served.  Whilst the breakfast buffet is fabulous, my tip is to order a side dish such as poached egg on avocado!

The Palace Bar

A super welcoming room including open fire place and comfy lounge chairs. This is a great place to relax or as we did on our second evening – have a fun burger meal.

The Wintergarden

One of my favourite rooms in the hotel. This is where you can relax and enjoy the most magnificent signature afternoon tea…

The top floor Kempinski Spa

An infinity pool with fantastic mountain views and surrounded by lots of different lounging areas. We found this to be the perfect spot to relax after a day up the mountain…

In-house Ski purchasing and rental

Thanks to the in-house services of Intersport Achermann we were able to book our ski and snowboard rental directly from the hotel.

Unfortunately we had a day of zero visibility so I didn’t get any wonderful pictures of the revolving Titlis Rotor gondola. However we did make it to the top for a drink and are absolutely determined to visit again with better weather.

See here for fun Engelberg winter activities.

Conclusion:

We really loved our stay and can only recommend the hotel for anyone wanting a fairytale winter or adventure filled summer break.
