Hi Everyone,
Truth be told I love a good skirt – my wardrobe is full of them. I find them super easy to style in Summer. However styling a skirt right in the colder months can be a challenge. What shoes, to wear socks or not to wear socks, black or nude tights, chunky or tight top, the list goes on.
So this season I’ve decided to have a bit of fun. Revisiting my street style pictures from Milan and Paris this September. It always amuses me how one can be there, take all the pictures and then still not really see the trends until months later. Well, there are those trends that instantly jump out but then there are more subtle trends. For example, knitted mini skirts worn over extra long shirts this season. I hadn’t picked that up before.
Enough of an introduction, time to get into looking at “9 Skirt Trends for Winter 2024 & How to Style Them”

9 Skirt Trends for Winter 2024 & How to Style Them
-
Maxi Pencil
As spotted outside the Prada show in Milan in September. The trick with these maxi pencil skirts is to team them with relatively tailored shirts and slingback kitten heeled pumps. Feel free to add a sleeveless slim fitting wooden vest for added warmth.
Both skirts available online here.
2. Skirt Suit
The skirt suit trend is definitely here to stay. In fact many fashionistas have ditched their trusty pant suits and replaced them for the more feminine skirt suit.
Often these are worn with the matching blazers either closed or at least partially closed for effect.
3. Leather skirts
What I really love about this seasons leather skirts is that we’ve moved away from only wearing leather pencil skirts to now also wearing leather skirts of other designs. Particularly like the one top left which was spotted outside Philosophy and is available here. The brown leather skirt in the middle is Fendi – available here.
4. Wrap Skirt
The wrap skirt is making a comeback this season. Worn with chunky knits and pointed pumps to give a real mix of dressed up yet not too formal all in one.
Skirts above available at Philosophy.
5. Sequins
A trend that was huge already last festive season, now out on the streets once again. Interesting to note these do look best with either a cropped knit, white tee or white shirt. Probably the shirt more so than the tee which is not such a hot item this Autumn/Winter.
Both skirts spotted outside the Gucci show in Milan.
6. Knitted mini’s
Here we have the little mini swollen skirts worn over long shirts. An interesting combination.
7. Furry Tube Skirts
Here’s a fun new trend for you and it’s already all over the high street shops too! Often the trick seems to be to style them with matching furry tops. However our muse on the right has a different take and decided to team hers with a colourful patterned shirt.
8. The Balloon Hem
It wouldn’t be a 2024 skirt trend report without mentioning the balloon hem skirt. The one thing I find totally amusing about this trend is the versatility of it. There are those more contemporary midi balloon hems to be seen and then there are the way out statement balloon hems in fluorescent pinks or greens. Choose your pick – smile!
Absolutely no rule about how to style these other than let your imagination flow!
9. Mini skirts in general
Mini skirts in general are a hot item for 2024725. Choose to team with shirts and knitted cardigans or alternatively wear with a long blazer and belt.
As the temperatures cool it’s best to team with long socks or boots.
Wishing you lots of fun styling your skirts this Autumn/Winter!

Hi dear Yvonne thank you for your blog I love those different styles of skirts and find it really quiet easy to dress up with any length thanks again
Great styling advice, thank you! I especially like the leather skirt trend since it is one of the warmest for frigid weather and for someone like me who detests the cold. I also love skirts!
