Hi Everyone,
Like it or not COVID-19 really is currently affecting all of us. Whether we have it or not, are in lockdown or not, it is there in all of our minds. It is in special moments like this that we all have to take extra care of ourselves to keep strong – not only physically but also mentally. It is all too easy to get bogged down with fear and uncertainty.
In a moment of desperation, the other day I decided to venture further afield with a dear friend of mine. We drove all the way to the Blausee in the Canton of Bern. The effects of this little trip on both of us were so great and positive that I did a little research. It is proven that even a day trip to the wilderness does great things for your health.
This post is written as a little encouragement to you all. If you can take a trip into the wilderness, now is the time. Pack a picnic lunch, stay warm and enjoy the nature!

Awe is good for you
Merely looking out into the beautiful scenery can produce the emotion called awe. Psychologists say awe can play an important role in boosting happiness, health and our social interactions. It may well have actually long played a role in how and why humans get along and ultimately cooperate with one another.
“People feeling awe focus more of their attention outward and value others more in social interactions,” Jennifer Stellar, PhD
2. Boosts Creativity
We see it all around us – architects, artists, fashion designers… the list goes on. When you ask them where they got their inspiration from many of them will say the nature.

3. Increases Energy and Vitality
A trip to the nature increases enthusiasm and overall liveliness to such an extent that it doesn’t evaporate as soon as we get back to every day life.
This post is proof. Plus I experienced it when I first moved to Switzerland and used to visit a cousin of mine in Oberhelfenswil. A trip to her in the country was always like taking a whole weeks vacation.
4. Sunlight
Being out in the wilderness increases your chance of experiencing sunlight – a necessary source of vitamin D. Sunlight has also been proven to lower the probability of musculoskeletal disorders, autoimmune disorders and even some cancers.
More about the benefits of sunlight here.
5. Easiest way ever for a fitness start
A trip to the wilderness will be default require some sort of movement. Before you know it you’ll have achieved your 10’000 steps. The great thing though is that more often than not it doesn’t even feel like you are specifically doing fitness. Perfect for even the best couch potatoes out there – smile!

Mouth watering bag. Lovr the colour you chose. And the jumper is a beauty too.
We have the sea nearby so we usually go for walks by the sea. Less awe though.
