Switzerland has lots of beautiful hotels – there is always a new one to discover. I’m often asked about my favourite hotels in Switzerland and of course there are many. However today’s post highlights 5 which I have hand picked for 2021. Each having something very special about them. Not all hotels have write-ups on FunkyForty.com so even if you are a regular reader there will be something new for you.
The prices of the hotels differ. I have learnt that Switzerland has some great 3 star hotels which have qualities you would normally find in a 4 – 5 star hotel. So keep scrolling for the very special one I’ve selected for today’s post.
Please note it was super hard to pick 5 as I have so many favourites. For a larger selection of hotels in Switzerland scroll through the FunkyForty Switzerland travel section here.

5 FunkyForty Favourite Hotels in Switzerland – 2021
1. Riffelalp Resort 2222m
The Riffelalp 2’222m is a 5 star resort in the municipality of Zermatt in the canton of Valais. Very special is the fact that the hotel is located up at 2’222m. From the Zermatt main train station you have to cross the road and catch the Gonergrat train to reach the hotel.
Do phone the hotel in advance so that the porter will pick you up from the Riffelalp station with one of their motorised toboggans. A sure way to start your vacation with a real “James Bond” feeling.
Being so high you can of course ski directly from and to the hotel. You can also hire ski equipment at the hotel itself.
The fantastic outdoor pool with Matterhorn view is an unbeatable experience, as is the hidden cave like spa area. Be sure to explore well!
2. Säntis – Das Hotel
Säntis-Das Hotel is a 3 star hotel located right by the cable car that takes you up to the top of the Säntis.
This has to be a real secret tip as one wold never expect a 3 star hotel to have the amazing wellness area that it does. The hotel is new and super modern. The restaurant is possibly a reflection of the hotel rating but the spa and location are both amazing.
Do try out the Kneipp spa path – a fabulous wellness activity.
The perfect place for a hiking/spa getaway.

3. Grand Resort Bad Ragaz
Situated in Bad Ragaz itself. The Grand Resort Bad Ragaz certainly deserves it’s name. An amazing 7’300 square meters of spa area with pools both indoors and out.
A variety of restaurants with delicious food and awesome wine cellar which is not to be missed.
The rooms are also beautifully decorated, maintaining a Grand Hotel charm with every modern convenience one could wish for.
There is also plenty to do in the area from golfing, wine tasting mountain biking and more.

4. Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva
Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva made it into my top 5 for today because of three main reasons.
First, the fabulous location along the lake of Geneva yet at the same time being in the centre of town. Second the beautiful spa on the rooftop floor. A real secret you would not necessarily expect from a city hotel. Third the amazing food. Not just me – I have also heard others say they think the best restaurant in Geneva is located in this hotel. Try the Japanese Fusion restaurant Izumi, Italian at Il Lago or Mediterranean at Le Bar Des Bergues.

5. Huus Gstaad Hotel
Huus Hotel Gstaad is a true alpine home away from home. The funky bar/lounge area has a fabulous party vibe to it in the evenings with live DJ. Super friendly and helpful staff.
This really is the perfect place to stay if you enjoy funky interiors. Each time I visit there seems to be something new to discover.
Perfect for Summer hiking or skiing in Winter, especially with the in-house ski rental/shop.
Cosy rooms with fabulous mountain views. Each containing a cuckoo clock and Hastens bed.
