Having just come back from a long trip to New Zealand and now finding myself smack bang in the middle of a very cold Winter, I know the toll extreme circumstances can have on your skin.
The good news is there are a few simple tips that will have a massive, positive impact on your skin. The times I felt there was no way my skin would be fine whilst travelling are over! In fact these tips I personally use are so effective I decided they needed to be shared.

5 Best Skincare Tips for Travel and Winter
1. Hydrate from the inside out
It sounds boring but drinking plenty of water is even more important while travelling or in Winter. We always concentrate on drinking enough whilst doing sports or sweating from Summer heat. However it is just as (if not more) important during extreme situations such as long air travel and Winter.
The best way to achieve this is to simply carry a small bottle of water with you wherever you go and sip it throughout the day.
2. Avoid washing your face with hot water
Water that’s too hot will end up drying out your skin. The absolute best is to wash your face with cold water. However if this is too uncomfortable for you, luke warm water is also ok. Especially if washing your face just before bedtime as cold water may wake you up instead of preparing you for sleep.
I also like to use a gentle but effective cleanser. My current favourite is from a Swiss brand Oqua – available online here.
3. Use a serum containing Hyaluronic Acid
Why hyaluronic acid? For starters, HA can bind up to 1000 times its weight in water! It serves as a humectant and holds water molecules onto the surface of your skin. Slowing the rate at which water evaporates from your skin and keeping it nicely hydrated.
Since having these little travel sized HA serums from Croma farewell with me wherever I go I have noticed a real difference to my skin whilst travelling – available online here.

4. Pamper your skin with a hydration mask
I’ve only just started doing this and absolutely love the effect. In the past I always had trouble keeping my skin feeling moisturised whilst travelling and during Winter.
However now I started using hydration masks and have noticed a huge difference. Especially fabulous to use whilst on an aeroplane – believe me – smile.
My favourites are Hyaluronic Acid based and by the Austrian company Croma farewell – available online here.

5. Use a moisturiser with sunscreen
Personally I find this the easiest way to make sure I don’t go out into the sun without my skin being protected. If I use a separate sunscreen instead I tend to forget – or spontaneously end up in a situation where I need sunscreen but don’t have any with me. Does anyone else know the feeling?
I recently discovered Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream (not sponsored at all). It has a SPV 30 and fabulous consistency which is easily absorbed into he skin. On top of which it is reasonably priced. The best platform I have found for buying it being easy cosmetic – see here.
On that note I wish you all a fabulous Winter vacation with even more fabulous skin – smile!
