3 Simple Rules for Layering with Impact

Hi Everyone,

You’re standing in front of the mirror having decided what you’re going to wear and then…

It’s Spring, you realise you need to wear either another coat or jacket on top to keep warm. However nothing matches the outfit you’re wearing. Does that sound familiar to you? The good news is it doesn’t have to match. Well not entirely in any case. The main thing is to ensure you pick up the colour of your outer layer somewhere else too – even if it’s simply in your nail polish!

This post is about how to layer with impact.

Ok, I think I’m on a red track at present but it doesn’t need to be red. The outer layer could just as easily be yellow or green to have a real impact.

3 Simple Rules for Layering with impact

1. Make sure you choose a solid bold colour such as red, green, yellow, bright pink, orange – the list goes on as long as it’s bright.

2. Wear simple basic items underneath such as black, white, navy, denim.

3. Team up the outer layer with the same colour somewhere else in your outfit that’s not too close  (i.e: not same coloured bag as this will get lost in the look). Matching nail polish, shoes, or sun glasses are great finishing touches for the perfect look.

Here you see my current favourite “Layering with Impact Look”. Keep reading to see a selection of outer layers and matching items for you to try.

The coat is new from Massimo Dutti, bought at the Glatt Shopping Centre in Zurich. I decided to team it up with red booties. The reds aren’t exactly the same but they are worn far enough away from each other to be OK.

Too hot, too cold…we know the feeling right – haha!

Note the rest of the outfit is very simple in colour leaving the impact up to the outer layer.
