Hi Everyone.
Sitting here in New Zealand on my “real” annual vacation, reflecting on the year just past. 2019 was a fabulous year, however it also, like any year had it’s challenges. It’s these times that let us grow and become a better version of ourselves.
Feeling grateful to be able to work in a field of my passion and realising that the concept of being an influencer is most likely to still be in it’s infancy with many others wishing to follow the same career path… This post is about 3 life changing blog lessons I learnt last year.
3 Life Changing Blog Lessons Learnt Last Year!
1. My work is worth something!
Wow this sounds so trivial and of course, as soon as I had a reasonable following I was aware that my work was worth something – but never really how much. I spent so much time in the past defending what I do and feeling guilty for asking money for it.
Today I know working as an influencer has a value, it is comparable to advertising and you don’t need to accept people expecting you to do work for free!
HOWEVER – if you want to be paid appropriately you have to think from a client perspective. What are you giving your client? Forget about thinking from the perspective of the amount of work you do!
2. The power of planning!
5 years in and finally I have started to plan. I learnt that it is possible to plan – even something as spontaneous as a blog. Better still, once a plan is in place it makes you feel so much more in control.
Plan your year ahead, get the main milestones in place but remember to be flexible and leave room for change where needed!
3. Stay true to yourself
There is a reason why you/we decide to start or create something. It’s so important to stay so very true to what we feel inside. No matter what those around you say or think – simply have the courage to go your way.
Make a decision and stick to it. It may be wrong but that’s ok you can learn from it. If it was right then you feel even stronger to go forward. However the worst you can do is let someone else manipulate or decide for you!
These are 3 lessons that can probably be adapted to any life – especially number 3. Always, always keep the power of your conviction. If you stray than you must still believe that what you are doing is right for a specific reason!

Oh this blog post is so timely for me! I am just starting to blog about my clothing upcycles! just posted my copy-cat Anthropologie dress blog post today! and since this blogging thing is relatively new (i’ve been doing some of it for my local costume rental business, but now really doing a ton more for myself), it still feels strange to post about me and take pictures of me–I’m 48 now…
but your post here encourages me to keep going!
thanks
That’s so nice to hear dear – wishing you all the very best with your ventures!

Yvonne, I love this outfit! It so fun and playful. And these lessons are great ones, for sure. I also learned my value this past year. And standing up for myself and my worth has been a challenging endeavor, but I get better with each rude email that comes my way and tells me that I am not worth the prices I demand. Funny thing is that I am worth it because many companies have no problem paying it. And so I will venture forth with more confidence in my worth and decline all those who want me to work for free. Wishing you all the best in the new year!
Good for you dear!
It’s important that we all stay strong.
Have a great and successful year ahead!

Great advice Yvonne! A lot of companies expect what amounts to free advertising but you have to stand firm. I love your pink skirt! Thanks for linking up!
