Hi Everyone,
Once upon a time a German property developer fell in love with the small mountain village Brigels. Happily visiting his appartment there for 30 years he saw the hotel next door go through many changes. Finally deciding to take matters into his own hands he bought the hotel La Val himself and turned it into the lovely Bergspa Hotel La Val as we know it today.
Keep reading to find out more and enjoy a pictorial account of our stay.
24 Hours at Bergspa Hotel La Val – Brigels
Only a 2 hour drive from Zurich, Brigels is situated beyond the beaten track at 1,300m. In the centre of the holiday and golf region of Surselva. Upon arrival we were met by the friendly multi lingual team who made sure our every wish was taken care of.
First impressions of the lovely reception area show just how lovingly the hotel has been renovated with a huge attention to detail.
Emphasis is placed on using Swiss products and materials. Even the flowers are special silk from Silk & Fine in Baar.
Munching on chocolate and croissants was first priority as we had the local walking trails explained to us. Then time to check into our rooms.
Every room has a little nuance of it’s own – This was mine. With lovely mountain views.
Here you see a little of one of the suites with romantic bath beside the bed.
Hiking
We’ve only got 24 hours so time to change and take the chair lift up the mountain…
I was super pleased to find this backpack in my room as the one I had taken wasn’t big enough for my camera – this one was perfect! We could even have had it filled for lunch but decided to try out the mountain restaurant instead…
Nothing like a platter of local meats and cheeses before starting on our 2.5 hour hike (including a little geocaching en route).
You’re going to have to excuse this photo but this was seriously the best water I have ever tasted! Trough situated right by Chischarolas. There were also several fireplaces en-route – perfect for a family picnic!
We really appreciated the tranquility with not many people on the track at all.
We chose hiking but there are also a number of other activities available. Suitable for both Summer and Winter.
Back at the Hotel – Wellness
Back at the hotel it was time to test the spa area. There are different saunas, steam rooms and treatments to choose from (see details here). My favourite spot was the lovely wellness pool (31°C) with integrated whirlpool.
New baskets are provided especially for the wellness area with the option to buy them if you wish to take one home.
Dinner
Three golden chips paid for apero which was served by the most charming waiter.
Moving onto dinner. Half board is a 4 course meal. The soup course is missing in the pictures above. Emphasis is placed on local ingredients.
The house wine comes from Wallis and is especially produced for the hotel including it’s own label. As you see even the wine was served with the hugest of smiles!
Breakfast
Needless to say the breakfast buffet left no wish unturned with a huge selection to keep us going for the trip back to Zurich. We were lucky enough to have it on the sunny terrace out front.
Fondue Hut
Final discovery before heading home was the little fondue hut that can be booked for private parties – now this looks like fun!
Thank you so much for having us!
