The Secret to Wardrobe Minimalism

Hi Everyone,

Wardrobe Minimalism sounds wonderful doesn’t it. Lets be honest it’s something we probably all dream about. Think about again and then put in the “too difficult to achieve” box.

In todays post, covering  the highlights of last weeks personal styling event with Melanie Albisser at Modissa in Zurich, you’ll see just how easy it can be to  create your own Wardrobe Minimalism. It’s simply a matter of ensuring your wardrobe contains as little as possible and at the same time enough to create the looks you want.

3 things you always need to have in mind for Wardrobe Minimalism:

  1. Build your wardrobe like a set of lego pieces.
  2. Identify the different situations you need clothing for (i.e. work, weekend, party).
  3. Select seasonal specific trends you would like to follow (i.e. stripes).

Now lets convert your current wardrobe into a functional minimal one:

Step One – What to remove:
  • Solo pieces that can’t be successfully combined with other items.
  • Items that don’t fit properly.
  • Anything else you no longer like.
Step Two – Analyse:
  • Split your wardrobe into situation compartments (work, weekend, party etc).
  • Identify areas that may need enhancing.
Step Three – Selecting seasonal trends you want to follow:
  • Now starts the fun part of deciding what to buy to complete your wardrobe.

5 trends you might like in Your wardrobe Spring/ Summer’17:

1. Patterns:

The Secret to Wardrobe MinimalismPatterns are a great statement trend this Spring – choose a pattern that combines well with other items in your wardrobe. This ensemble works well with jeans, black or navy. By buying two pieces you could end up making many different looks.

2. Oversize:

This oversize suit is great on it’s own. The trousers would also look great worn alone with more figure hugging tops and likewise the oversized jacket would also look great over skinny trousers or even shorts.

3. Pleats

Pleats have been in for a few seasons but this Summer more than ever they have become a must have in every wardrobe. The pleated trend has also extended into trousers…

4. Off the Shoulder Dress

One off the shoulder dress is a must have in every wardrobe this Spring/ Summer!

5. Stripes

Stripes have been hot for a few seasons now and they’re definitely here to stay so why not try a striped top with a difference – super pretty over light colour trousers, jeans or even a denim skirt (tucked in at the front in this case).
