Lo amo Como!

IMG_1481Lo amo Como (I love Como)!

It is true I really love the whole Como area. The other day I was sitting next to someone who said to me they did not know what was so special about Como compared to Zurich – they both have a lake and shops and boats so what’s the big deal? This made me realise I have to get this post out – don’t get me wrong – of course I love Zurich too but Como really does have a sense of magic for me!

5 Favourite tips for Como:

1) Shopping

It doesn’t matter which shop you go into they will always make you feel like a princess!

My daughter trying on a dress in Pour Toi a new shop with very cute dresses all around Euro 70 so great value for money.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOne of my favourite stores is Moresi – amazing dresses, made out of stretch cashmere you can wash and hang and wear as much as you like – can be dressed up with boots and jacket or down with simple all stars or strappy sandals – mine has become one of my favourite “go to” dresses!

2) Prosecco

– really cheap and cheerful in Como and always served with complementary yummy snacks.

My favourite Prosecco stop depends on whether we want to be indoors or out. Indoors is Enoteca Castiglioni and outdoors is any of the little restaurants situated at the Piazza Duomo – great for people watching 😉

3) Boat trips

– I really recommend taking a trip to both Cernobbio and Bellagio. Cernobbio is great for lunch and to visit the castle there. Bellagio is a great little spot for some local shopping…have been there several times and not yet bumped into George – perhaps next time – although I have heard that the locals have installed a law that you are not allowed to talk to him if you see him!

4) Dinner

Cheap and cheerful – try any of the restaurants at the Piazza Volta – plenty of action happening at nite and fabulous pizzas! Not to mention the little restaurant we found which has Tignanello on the menu for less than cost ( in Zurich).

Romantic Dinner for two – try Cibooooh – fabulous food – the restaurant was full of locals which is always the best sign of a good restaurant in Italy 😉

5) Where to stay

Our favourite hotel – right outside the gates to the old town on Piazza Vittoria is Le Due Corti – it used to be the old post station and has been converted to a hotel but kept in a lovely unique Italian style! As there are three of us we tend to ask for room 213 which has a little lounge with fold out sofa and separate bedroom – perfect for the family! Breakfast is also really great!

If you only have one nite /day in Como I suggest the following city tour:

Have fun – especially if you decide to explore Como – I promise you won’t be disappointed!

  1. That first picture!?
    That hotel room!?
Oh to be there instead of here at my desk in my office on this particularly average London day.

  2. We love Lake Como too Yvonne and have had some fab family holidays there with Bellagio our absolutely favourite place. Can highly reccomend the Villa Carlotta near Tremezzo and the Iron Gate in Cadenabbia for lovely croissant and coffee too. Think we might need to think about another trip 🙂 thanks for the post!
